In the area around La-Ferté-Bernard, 190 km from Paris. Motorways can be reached via the A11 Paris-Le Mans interchange, La-Ferté-Bernard exit. The Le-Mans TGV train station has 55-minute links to Paris-Montparnasse whilst La-Ferté-Bernard TER train station has 110-minute links to the French capital.
Small towns, some ten kilometres away, have all amenities (a market, shops and schools as well as cultural and sports centres) and a village is less than 2 km away.
The Perche-Sarthois area is steeped in a wealth of heritage. Its main sites and landmarks relate many interesting pages of local history. Its countryside, featuring small fields and many hedges, will also appeal to nature lovers and enthusiasts of hiking, especially through forests. It provides opportunities to discover the delicious local produce and to meet the producers.
This rectangular building, dating from the 15th century, awaits renovation, although its carcass and its roof are still in a good state of repair. The walls are constructed from quarry stone blocks, the gable roof is covered with local tiles and the framing around the openings is made of freestone. It comprises buildings of varying heights; a first section spanning 2 levels is followed by another section spanning 3 levels. It still has some outstanding architectural features such as an ancient fireplace in the prior’s bedroom, old, 10x10 terracotta floor tiles, a superb roofing framework in the attic space, which could be converted. It is followed by a 19th century outbuilding (45 m²) which could be adjoined to the priory. It faces east-west.
This rectangular building is topped with a tile roof. The walls are covered with lime rendering. The framing around the openings is made of white stone whilst the window and door frames are wooden. It faces east-west.
The surrounding natural countryside is reminiscent of the image of Epinal with one hundred year old oaks amongst many other trees, vast stretches of grassland as well as the typical Bocage features and harmoniously aligned apple trees, grown in keeping with organic farming principles. It is difficult to believe that Paris can be reached so easily; Paris, or another large town such as Le-Mans. This property with its outbuildings, in this unlikely out of the way place, would make an ideal family home or could be used for a bed & breakfast activity. In either case, a reorganisation of the aesthetically interesting buildings would provide autonomy and independence.
