Legal Informations & CGU
In the French department of Calvados, 20 km from Bayeux train station and 26 km from that of Caen. Villers-Bocage, a town with 3,000 inhabitants less than 8 km away, has all shops and amenities. The proximity of the A84 motorway puts Deauville, Caen and Rennes within easy reach. Gold-Beach and Arromanches, both emblematic sites of events in the Second World War are 20 minutes away. One side of the property faces south, with a view extending over the surrounding countryside.
The 18th century residence
Slightly set back, on the left-hand side of the entrance to the courtyard, a large horse-chestnut tree in the middle of the lawns forms shadowy patterns on the manor house facade. The latter comprises a main building with two side projections, both topped with triangular pediments. The slightly protruding, central entrance is flanked by pilasters and crowned with a pediment. A sculpted stone shed dormer marks the top of this central bay. The middle of the rear facade features an adjoining octagonal tower, built of white stone inlaid with red brick. It is set between two little, single-storey buildings, whose walls feature two windows. An extension adjoining the right-hand gable is built of shale quarry blocks. It houses a self-contained dwelling.
The natural swimming pool
A natural swimming pool provides peaceful linearity, between the residence’s original facade and the old bakery, in the raised garden behind the manor house.
The former bakery
This small building, constructed from shale quarry blocks, is to be found behind the manor house and the swimming pool. Transformed into guest accommodation, it opens on to the natural swimming pool terrace. The oven has been preserved in its original condition.
The two outbuildings set out around the central courtyard stand at right angles to one another. Constructed from the shale quarry blocks characteristic of the local area, they are used for farming purposes. One houses a vast stone press and has an upstairs dwelling awaiting renovation. Outside of the property, a tarmacked carpark adjoins a little, shale quarry block building which has been restored as a dwelling.
The equestrian facilities
These have everything required for show jumping:
- a large, 80x35 m, sand and fibre, outdoor riding arena.
- a sandy grass, outdoor riding arena.
- an indoor, 35x18 m, sand and fibre riding arena, closed on four sides, covered with wood cladding.
- a Havrincourt lunge ring.
- an isolating paddock with a shelter.
- meadows and paddocks crossed by a stream.
- an elegant, wooden barn housing 11 large, horse loose boxes (4.2x4 m), a shower room, a tack room, a laundry room and a grooming area.
- an outdoor wooden stable with a concrete pavement and a canopy housing 7 horse loose boxes (3x3 m)
- a stable with a canopy, adjoining the indoor riding arena, housing 9 horse loose boxes.
The efficient and practical equestrian facilities are equipped for show jumping. This site, between the horse riding centres of Deauville to the east and Saint-Lô to the west, was almost essential for amateur and professional horse riders. Although it has everything to keep horses happy, between the leisure garden, the natural swimming pool and a distinguished, 18th century residence, it also has what is needed to satisfy its residents, a large family for example. The oriental style tower on the rear facade provides a touch of fantasy to an architecture carried by classicism. The outdoor life can but be seen as elegant, active and dynamic on these premises.
