Location

This property, 50 minutes from Porte-de-Saint-Cloud via the N12 and 50 minutes from Montparnasse via Houdan train station, stands on the edge of a peaceful rural village. 6 km from Houdan, the village takes advantage of the liveliness of the little historic town, the centre of which still has numerous shops and a weekly market.

Description

The village, nestling in the hollow of a small valley, has a well-kept appearance courtesy of a large, traditional, rehabilitated building.
Standing in parklands spanning 1.5 ha, this east-west-facing residence is set on the property boundary. It is protected by a stone wall and faces a verdant hillside.
Several areas ideal for relaxing have been laid out near to the house in the shade of some outstanding trees. A little further away, a vast meadow extends as far as the wooded hillside. A long row of fruit trees on the south side flaunt their delicate blooms every springtime.

The house

This traditional, long farmhouse was constructed on the foundations of an old farm building. Spanning two levels, it is topped with a roof covered in flat tiles. A wide terrace runs the full length of the main facade. Both look widely out over the landscape and take full advantage of the rising sun. A lower section, adjoining the south gable, is topped with a single-sloped roof and houses a boiler room as well as a workshop.


Ground floor
This house is entered via impressive, double French windows that open into the entrance hall and the lounge, both of which form a space, spanning a floor surface area of approx. 43 m², topped with a cathedral ceiling. A section of the lounge is covered with a lower ceiling, featuring exposed beams and forming a mezzanine level, reached via a small independent stairway on the left-hand side of the stone fireplace. Open off the lounge, a kitchen, spanning approx. 27 m², is laid out around a large eating area which communicates with the terrace via a French window. Further away, a corridor provides access to two bedrooms and a toilet. One of these bedrooms has an adjoining bathroom and a door leading directly to the garden.
First floor
An oak wood stairway goes up alongside an exposed stone wall, separating the kitchen from the lounge, to the first floor. A bookshelf unit on the right-hand side takes up the small mezzanine. Straight on, a corridor runs along the west facade, providing access to a first bedroom with an adjoining shower room, followed by two bedrooms and a large separate bathroom and toilet.
Workhouse
A small construction, spanning approx. 30 m², is in use as a garage. Constructed of stone and featuring a roof covered with flat tiles, it partially backs on to the property’s perimeter wall. Its half-timbered gable wall houses several nesting-boxes.
Outbuilding
Set back, an outbuilding is constructed of wood on a concrete screed and covered with wooden cladding. It is used as a storage area.

Our opinion

Real style is exuded by this traditional, long farmhouse, with its lintel-topped, low, wide windows and its old carriage entrance, commensurate with the area on to which it opens. The immediate surroundings make the most of the natural setting which, out of sight of onlookers, inspires ideas for relaxing and leisure activities. But, as difficult as it might seem, Paris is not far away so why not combine work with pleasure by living here?
