Wrapped around the sumptuous collegiate church built on its peak, Montreal breathes the air of the Pyrenees mountains and the Mediterranean wind. The atmosphere is so peaceful that it is hard to imagine what happened here during the centuries that followed the Middle Ages. The village drew its strength and wisdom from this tumultuous past, all the while keeping a touch of mystery. Camellas Lloret also has an air of discretion and mischief. Nestled between its neighbours, the house is careful not to give away its uniqueness. The property's taste for simple things that represent both the past and present through a multitude of details almost upstages the ever-present comfort. Happy are those who stay here after they have had their fill of the region's cultural and artistic treasures.
When returning to France after four years in London, we fell in love with this house. It could have been elsewhere. With the sun, the vineyards, the view of the Black Mountain and the Pyrenees, the Cathar castles and the Canal du Midi, the authenticity of the region is incredibly pleasing.
It is a mansion located in the village of Montreal. The interior and exterior staircases along with the garden give the house a unique character. The air of yesteryear is still present today in the tommettes and the rough parquet flooring, the marble fireplaces and the winter garden.
From what we know, Montreal landowners lived on their properties during the week and owned mansions in the town in order to go to the collegiate church on Sundays for mass. The letters 'CL' are etched in the cement on the floor in the entrance as well as in the wrought iron above the main door. The previous owners searched for lost names and they found Camellas Lloret.
We offer stays in guest rooms with breakfast served in the garden. We like to showcase local and organic products. Our five rooms all have a unique “personality”. We offer Aesop products, bathrobes, and a welcome drink from Domaine Le Fort which is here in Montreal. From time to time, often unexpectedly, we have a table d'hôtes. We live here ourselves and we love to make everyone feel at home.
First and foremost is the charming village of Montreal and its collegiate church offering a panoramic view of the square. The local markets of Bram, Limoux, Mirepoix and obviously that of Carcassonne are just a 15 minute drive away and well worth the detour. Domaine Le Fort, a wine estate, holds wine tasting workshops with oenologist Stéphanie Fargues which are not to be missed. For restaurants, I love La Taverne à Bacchus, on the road to Limoux - both the place and cuisine are rare and authentic. I also love Freaks in Carcassonne, in the old town. La Rive-Belle de Herminis is a restaurant located in an old Lock house at a pleasant and quiet spot on the edge of the Canal with a comfortable and shaded terrace. Finally, Les jardins de Vaissières delicatessen, in Villasavary, sells fruit, vegetables and cheeses from local producers.

For a "rustic cabin" experience, with a private entrance from the garden, the "garden apartment" room is equipped with a small kitchenette with a dining table. A staircase in reclaimed wood leads to the first floor and to a bedroom with a double bed and a winter living room (or second bedroom with two single beds). Another staircase leads to the top floor where there is a bathroom with a view of the Pyrenees through a small window, a large free-standing bathtub and an old salvaged sink.
