This artist’s studio-cum-open-plan flat is in Arcueil, on the southern edge of Paris, just a stone’s throw from the Vache-Noire district. It is easy to access by car via the Porte-d'Orléans. The Laplace-Arcueil station on RER train line B can be reached on foot in less than 3 minutes, putting the centre of the French capital just 10 minutes away. This district with numerous shops and schools is booming. Many painters and sculptors have worked in this creative melting pot where the renowned artist, François-Arnal, had his workshop which he dubbed “Atelier A”. As of 1968, he designed numerous works, including the “Véli-vélo table” which dates from 2009. He died in 2012 leaving an artistic heritage that is both varied and personal.
Two paved, landscaped courtyards spanning 46 and 30 m²
This studio is bordered by two large courtyards, attractively paved and enhanced with shrubs and climbing plants. These courtyards, spanning a total surface area of 76 m², pleasantly isolate the premises from the rest of the co-owned building whilst providing peace and quiet as well as privacy. A large vehicle could be parked in one of them.
A 102 m² bamboo grove resembling an open air patio or a future garden
This bamboo grove, designed to resemble a patio, is a pleasant spot for relaxing or taking meals. In accordance with the age-old Spanish tradition as regards patios, most of the living rooms and some of the bedrooms open on to this outside area. The tall bamboo could make way for other plants that are easier to keep under control which would also let in more daylight and sunshine.
A 56 m² cellar
Reached from the bamboo grove via a straight stairway, this cellar provides a good storage area spanning approx. 56 m².
Painter, sculptor, designer and writer, François Arnal permanently set himself challenges. His “Atelier A”, a collective business based on the insertion of artists in contemporary life, accommodated all kinds of artists who came here to produce their works. This generosity made available to a polymorphic creativity is fully reflected in these exceptional premises, steeped in light and exuding potential and possibilities for future uses. Although it is still an ideal property for any artist, it would also appeal to enthusiasts of large spaces that can be converted into open-plan flats, especially as it could be divided into several sections.
