Location

Fontenay-aux-Roses, 5 km south of Paris, is surrounded by large parks which contribute to the quality of life. The historic town centre has numerous shops. Local primary and secondary schools, such as Lakanal and Marie-Curie, have an excellent reputation. Paris can be quickly reached by car or by public transport. The RER train line B, just two minutes’ walk from the house, takes 12 minutes to reach the centre of the French capital. The town is crossed by a verdant stretch known as the “Coulée Verte” which links eight communes and makes it possible to explore the surrounding parks and forests by bike.

Description

This house, standing near to the town centre, is in a quiet district. It is a middle-class residence surrounded by two pleasant gardens, planted with varying species of tall trees including cypress, evergreen oak and laurel. The garden also features a well, paved alleyways and a convivial terrace where meals can be taken.
This house dates from 1785 and renovation works have but enhanced its character. Its U-shape unites the old part and the contemporary section with its large picture windows overlooking the garden.
Designed by an architect, the interior areas are bright and easy to move around. Links with the outside have been well-thought out such that the green open spaces are like extensions of the house.
Two car parking spaces, sheltered by an awning, can be reached from the street independently of the house. There is also a wood storage area.

The ground floor

The main entrance door, in the 19th century section of the house, opens into a vestibule featuring old cement floor tiles. The master bedroom, at the end of the vestibule, has its own bathroom, fitted with a lion-claw bath and a shower. It has an adjoining dressing room. An Alsatian wood-burning stove provides original decoration for this bedroom. The living room is an open space, flooded with light courtesy of industrial style atrium windows. It has light-coloured wood parquet flooring and brightly coloured walls. The lounge is set out around a closed-hearth fire that heats the area most efficiently. The dining room, following on, is able to seat a large number of guests. The kitchen is laid out in a semi open-plan. The lounge and the kitchen also have underfloor heating. Following on from the kitchen, facing the main entrance hall, is a study, which can also be accessed via the garden, as well as a large storage area.

The upstairs

The upstairs comprises four identical, bright bedrooms with views over the garden. Each room has a marble fireplace and parquet flooring. They share a shower room featuring small multi-coloured tiles.

The attic

The attic is a vast storage area that has not been converted.

Our opinion

This residence resembles not only a holiday home, the town being airy, but also a middle-class townhouse, with Paris just a stone’s throw away. Its modest facade is brightened up with pastel hues. Colours have also been put to good use on the inside where renovation works designed by an architect let in copious amounts of light and add tasteful modernity. The garden provides a verdant touch which is widely extended by the parks in this section of the Greater Paris Area.
