Legal Informations & CGU
This house stands in the midst of the Odéon district, famous for long having been the intellectual, artistic and political centre of the French capital. Bordered to the south by Luxembourg Gardens and to the west by Saint-Germain-des-Prés, it owes its internationally renowned reputation to its elegant facades, its museums and its art galleries as well as its numerous cafés, restaurants and other eating places. Families, seeking to educate their children, will find some of the most prestigious schools and universities nearby. Furthermore, the local public transport network makes it easy to reach all the other districts of Paris.
A long entrance hall, lined with exposed stone walls, leads from a door opening on to the street to a main wooden stairway with its terracotta tile steps, bearing the patina of time.
The first landing provides access to a wide hall area, with cupboards, laid out as a dining room. It is illuminated via a picture window opening on to an east-facing patio. Opposite, a west-facing kitchen features exposed beams and joists as well as old terracotta floor tiles. A goods lift goes up to the three upper floors. A bedroom, with cupboards, and its bathroom, with a toilet, complete this floor.
The next floor comprises a large through lounge, with a corner stone fireplace, a French ceiling and a balcony, with wrought ironwork railings, overlooking the inner courtyard. The stone floor is inlaid with black decoration. The walls are lined with panelling and bookshelves.
The third floor includes a hall area, two bedrooms, with cupboards and hanging spaces, both featuring exposed beams and strip pattern parquet flooring, as well as two bathrooms, with toilets.
A second, indoor stairway goes up to the top floor, laid out as a bedroom, with parquet flooring, and a small separate shower room and toilet. Its two west-facing skylights let in light from above the buildings, bordering the street opposite the house. A wide, sliding picture window opens directly on to an east-facing terrace, providing an unobstructed view.
The converted cellars can be reached via two stone stairways. The biggest has been transformed into a vast music room spanning more than 40 m², with parquet flooring and a stone vaulted ceiling reaching a height of 2.70 m. A sauna has been installed in an adjoining area, with exposed stone walls, a cold water “swimming pool”, a shower and a separate toilet. A trapdoor provides access via a narrow flight of open steps to a small cellar on a lower level.
Discretion reigns here in these undreamt-of premises laid out behind their sober stone facade. It is a rare privilege to live in a house in Paris, especially one in an arrondissement that blends history and architecture with a local way of life, jealously guarded by its inhabitants. Full of surprises with its nooks and crannies, this house spans a variety of interior and exterior areas, enhanced by light and shadow, exposed stone and age-old wood. Modernisation works can but improve its promise of tranquillity and distinctiveness made to aesthetes or a family.
