In the south of the Lorraine region and almost on the borders of the Franche-Comté region, in an area that forms a crossroads with Nancy 105 km away on main roads as well as Luxemburg and Germany roughly 230 km away almost entirely on motorways; Switzerland at a distance of 155 km away is even nearer. Paris is 380 km away but can be reached in just 135 minutes by train direct from Epinal station, just 30 km away.
The town’s historic heritage is extremely rich with numerous 18th and 19th century listed buildings, more particularly numerous features of the spa centre, several old hotels in the main street and the old Gallo-Roman baths. It was one of Emperor Napoleon III’s favourite places to stay and a walk along the town’s main street takes visitors back through some three hundred years of history.
The entire region is dotted with lush valleys with fresh running water in the middle of a forest of resinous and beech trees, some of which are quite majestic.
The town’s thermal spa centres treat numerous chronic disorders. The small town also has a casino and bargain hunters will be in their element amongst the numerous antique shops.
The mansion house
