Location

This property, in the midst of the Touraine region, is less than 30 minutes from some of the most illustrious of the chateaux in the Loire Valley classified as a World Heritage site by Unesco.
40 minutes from Tours and its TGV train station with 55-minute links to Paris.
15 minutes from Amboise.
Chenonceau, one of the most famous and visited of the Loire chateaux, is nearby.
In a village with all local shops and amenities, this property is fully enclosed. Its setting is the reason behind its current bed & breakfast activity and is a major asset for its continuation.

Description

This old mill, constructed in 1840, is set in immaculately kept verdant, landscaped, wooded parklands. There are no nuisances to disturb the tranquillity. The mill spans a floor surface area of 550 m². The old barn constitutes a 70 m² outbuilding.

The mill

This mill dates from the middle of the 19th century. Its local freestone facade is rendered in the old-fashioned way. Its slate roof covers three floors of living space.


Ground floor
The ground floor comprises an entrance hall, with parquet flooring and moulding, a study, with parquet flooring and a fireplace, as well as several adjoining lounges.
The first lounge has parquet flooring, exposed ceiling beams and fabric hung on the walls.
A music room has parquet flooring, exposed ceiling beams and a solid oak wood stairway.
The last, main lounge has parquet flooring, a fireplace and moulding. It further features an atrium window looking out over the parklands.
This level also includes a fitted kitchen with a pantry and a back door.

First floor
The first floor landing provides access to a first bedroom with parquet flooring, moulding and wallpaper on the walls. It has a large bathroom with a toilet.
A flat comprises a bedroom with parquet flooring, a shower room and toilet, a second bedroom as well as a small storage room.
This is followed by another bedroom, reached via the tower, with parquet flooring, a fireplace and fabric hung on the walls. It has its own bathroom and toilet.

Second floor
The second floor comprises a hall area providing access to five bedrooms with bathroom and toilet.
A first bedroom has parquet flooring, fabric hung on the walls and a small dressing room.
A second bedroom has parquet flooring.
A family bedroom comprises a large bedroom with a bathroom and toilet as well as another bedroom with a shower room and toilet.
And a last bedroom has a bathroom and a toilet.

Garden level
The garden level comprises a fully renovated, self-contained studio flat.
Basement
The basement houses three cellars, including a wine cellar and a cellar in use as a boiler room, notably with a very economical geothermal heat pump.
Barn
A barn adjoining the main house is currently used for protecting plants during the winter months, parking cars and storing garden tools. Its roof is in need of attention.
The swiming pool
An outdoor, 11x5 m, unheated swimming pool is filled with well water. It blends in perfectly with the parklands.

Our opinion

This old mill, with its towers and the sober layout of its windows, looks like a small chateau. It is not pretentious enough to try to rival with its illustrious Loire Valley neighbours but it holds its own as a starting point for visitors. Guests are soothed by the peace and quiet as well as the comfort and take great pleasure in strolling through the parklands, around one of the lakes, with their heads full of Renaissance architecture and decoration. Whatever their projects, newcomers will find the buildings in a good state of repair. Only the roof will be in need of attention one day or another. These premises are the ideal place to live in harmony with art and nature.
