Description
The manor house
This manor house, constructed in a neo-classical style in the 19th century, comprises two adjoining buildings. Standing over cellars, it spans two levels of living space as well as an attic floor and is topped with very steep roofs.
The elegant, symmetrical facade is rendered and covered with climbing plants during the summer months. Its numerous windows look out over the main courtyard and the parklands.
The caretaker’s cottage and other outbuildings
The caretaker’s cottage, standing at the entrance to the property, is built over a wine cellar. It has an entrance independent of the main courtyard. All its living space is on the ground floor and faces the outbuildings. It comprises a kitchen, a lounge and two bedrooms with a shower room and a toilet. This functional dwelling also has a garage, once a stable, and is topped with attic space.
Several outbuildings are laid out in front of the caretaker’s cottage and on the side of the manor house. They include, amongst others, a kennel, an old henhouse, the old stables now garages, an old barn and the gardener’s cottage. There is a well in the courtyard.
The parklands, planted with trees, hundreds of years old, surround the manor house, providing a verdant setting. A bridle path makes it easy to walk in natural surroundings that have not been overly tamed.
Our opinion
Like the old French province of Bourbonnais, this manor house exudes tasteful grace, enhanced by a certain opulence and the simplicity of having nothing to prove. It is difficult to look at it without feeling emotion created by the sober beauty of the expression of a familiar culture. Guests are pampered: the ceilings in the reception rooms, for instance, are sumptuous. The parklands are a natural invitation to go for a walk.
