A 600 m² house with a garden, terraces and panoramic views
over Bois-de-Boulogne and Paris in Suresnes

Location

In Suresnes, in the French department of Hauts-de-Seine, in a little used, one-way street in the district known as Cité-Jardins (Garden city). This house stands near to Mont-Valérien in a residential area. Near to all shops and amenities, just across the river Seine from Bois-de-Boulogne as well as the Polo-de-Paris sports complex and, therefore, just a few minutes from Paris, Neuilly and La-Défense. SNCF train stations and the tramway are but a few minutes’ walk away. Two regional train lines have 15-minute links with Saint-Lazare and La-Défense stations. The T2 tramline goes one way to Puteaux and La-Défense and the other to Porte-de-Versailles going via Issy-Val-de-Seine, with a tram every four minutes during the rush hour.

Description

This large house, spanning approx. 600 m² of living space, dominates the whole of Paris and Bois-de-Boulogne. Constructed at the beginning of the 20th century in the district dubbed Cité-Jardins and transformed by successive owners, this house is now a superb residence. Although all the various sections are harmoniously connected, the original building is easily recognised, courtesy of its unusual tower, as is the rear section created by a large extension.
Once through the gates, a wooded access pathway crosses the garden and leads to the entrance. The ground floor predominantly comprises reception areas: an entrance hall with a cloakroom and separate toilet, a large lounge, spanning more than 90 m² and opening on to a terrace, a dining room and a convivial, fully fitted kitchen. A large guest bedroom with direct garden access has been laid out at the end of the house. On the upper floors are a small, cosy lounge and four bedrooms, each with a bath or shower room and a dressing room. On the lower floor, still dominating Paris, numerous areas could still be converted for a multitude of purposes. It comprises a studio flat, with direct street access, that is separate from the rest of the house and which could be used for accommodating a young au-pair.

The house

All the rooms in the house have a view over the whole of the west of Paris and Bois-de-Boulogne.

Ground floor
The warm and welcoming entrance hall sets the tone for the rest of the house. It provides access, left, to a lounge, spanning more than 90 m², flanked by eight columns. On the east side of the room are four windows dominating Paris and, on the west side, wide windows open on to the solid ash wood terrace and the garden. At the end is a large bedroom with its own shower room. This can be used for accommodating friends and family in their own cosy, private area. A fully fitted kitchen includes a very convivial central unit. Its direct access on to the terrace or to the dining room makes it a key room in the house. A planted area, exuding a tranquil atmosphere, has been laid out in the semi-circular rotunda. The elegant dining room, enhanced with parquet flooring and warm colours, includes built-in bookshelves. The balcony running alongside this room and its wide windows make it possible to contemplate Eiffel Tower whilst eating. Also on this level are a pantry, a guest toilet and a bedroom with a dressing room and a shower room.
First floor
A straight stairway with wooden steps and railings leads upstairs. On the right-hand side is a small, cosy family lounge which, with its large windows looking out over the west of Paris, is particularly luminous. The semi-circular rotunda, currently used as a small study, provides access to a terrace that awaits completion. On the left-hand side are two superb bedrooms, each with a dressing room and a shower room.
Second floor
This top floor is currently devoted to the masters of the house. It comprises a 60 m² bedroom, with a high, sloping ceiling as well as an open-plan bathroom, adjoining a large, fully fitted dressing room. This area includes a study, laid out at the top of the tower in the rotunda which goes up to a height of more than 6 metres.
Lower Level 1
This area, reached via a stairway going down from the pantry, is divided into two separate sections: on the one hand, the cellars comprising the boiler room-workshop, the wine cellar, the laundry room and a storage area; on the other hand, an area used for professional purposes comprising a large office and a very large room. The latter could easily be converted into a home-cinema, a games room or a work space. This level, laid out below the large lounge, has the advantage of natural luminosity as it has wide windows with the same views as the room above.
Also on this level is a self-contained studio flat with a private entrance off of the street. It would be possible to integrate this area in with the rest of the house.

Our opinion

The magnificence of the unobstructed views, taking in the whole of the west of Paris, from La-Défense to Meudon’s hills, cannot be overly praised. Although this residence is less than 15 minutes from the old city gates into the French capital, the town of Suresnes provides it with a way of life that is particularly attractive to members of the working population who would easily be able to get to Paris and the business districts in La-Défense. The bright, comfortable rooms, the panoramic terraces, the superb urban garden and the large number of bedrooms make this residence ideal for a large family who would be able to host impressive parties. However, its full potential is far from having been achieved; for example, there is nothing to prevent residents using it for business purposes, a significant additional asset.
