This property stands in the very midst of the Brittany-Vendée marshlands, on the Bay of Bourgneuf-en-Retz. Its vast surface area, along the Atlantic coast, is composed of canals, wet meadows and polders. Salt and oyster farming take place nearby. Pornic and Ile-de-Noirmoutier are both about 20 km away, Nantes is some 40 km away.
Numerous hiking trails are but an invitation to explore the surrounding sites. It takes less than 20 minutes to reach the sea by bike. Shops and amenities are less than 5 km away.
The traditional, long farmhouse
This traditional, long farmhouse, all on one level, was renovated as of 1990 in keeping with its vernacular architecture. The entrance hall provides access to a kitchen and a dining room. Both the entrance hall and the kitchen have old slate floors. In the dining room and the lounge, separated by old oak wood doors, the walls are lime-rendered, whilst the lime-concrete floors are painted with frescoes and coated with resin. Both the lounge and the dining room feature distinctive fireplaces: more a Louis XIII style for the lounge; including a bread oven in the dining room. A laundry room, with a shower, adjoins the dining room. A door leading outside provides access to a boiler room. A corridor leads from the lounge to three bedrooms, the last of which includes an adjoining bathroom and a wardrobe. All the bedrooms have parquet flooring. The corridor features terracotta floor tiles.
The house and its land are so strongly linked that they make this property a very distinctive place to live. Whether a keen birdwatcher or a hunter or even just seeking a place to commune with nature, potential buyers will appreciate the amazing wild life including common teal, European mallard, greylag geese, common curlew, eel, pikeperch and pike. The marshlands are also home to a certain number of protected species such as the European otter.
Although the house is sited on old maps, it has no doubt been redesigned over the years by its residents and the changes in its vocation.
