Comporta is already in itself the new Eden of Portugal with its dunes, endless white sand beaches, and protected landscapes between sea and rice fields. But to find the spot where everything seems to fall into place, you have to stray a little from the coast and follow a sandy path. Amidst the umbrella pines and the surrounding landscape that crosses through, this low-standing and totally transparent house certainly stands out. With minimalist lines, concrete, glass and mixed wood, the ensemble creates an almost air-like feeling of lightness. Architectural simplicity has been worked to the extreme so as to allow nature to take centre stage. The amenities and comforts top it all off. Everything is here to savour the show.
I live in the United States and am very attached to Portugal. It may be a small country, but it has a great variety of habitats and environments. I love this area because it is close to the beach where it is warm on summer days and cooler at night. Although the vegetation is arid, there are still a lot of green pines - the Pinheiro Mansos is my favourite. Being able to live in the countryside and nonetheless choose to spend a day at the beach or an evening in the city makes this a very special place. It is multi-faceted, silent, simple and beautiful all at once.
It is a contemporary, elegant and spacious villa built in the midst of a rural environment. It consists of a 367m² main house and a romantic 50m² wooden cabin located by the pool. The interiors are uncluttered, featuring natural materials and wooden shutters on the floor-to-ceiling glass facades. The house is spread over two floors. It has an open-plan living space with a high ceiling and huge windows that let in lots of natural light and offer a generous view of the surrounding fields, imbuing it with a cheerful, serene and calm atmosphere. The floors are made of concrete. The villa and cabin are raised off the ground and are surrounded by a wraparound terrace.
This modern hideaway takes its name from the water sources in the nearby rice fields. Located in the centre of a farm, the villa is a meeting of modernity and nature in the heart of the Portuguese countryside. Completed in 2010, it was designed by Portuguese architect Pedro Ferreira Pinto.
A modern villa in a rural setting, complete with a tennis court and a heated swimming pool, located near a long stretch of pristine and uninhabited beaches. Tres Bicas is located in the southwest of Portugal, about seventy minutes by car from Lisbon or Faro. It is a twenty-two hectare farm, made up of pine and cork forests and fertile gardens, which is managed by Mr Germinal, our master farmer. We aim to preserve the natural beauty of the region through initiatives that support non-intensive organic farming. Here, among the intoxicating scents of pine and lavender, is where you will find the real Comporta untouched by urbanisation and tourism. The housekeepers come twice a week and can bring fish and seafood with them which they cook wonderfully! The gardeners come once a week and are always happy to show guests around the vegetable garden.
The Herdade da Comporta covers 12,500 hectares and includes the small villages of Comporta, Torre, Brejos, Carvalhal, Muda and Bicas - so there is a lot to explore! For restaurants, I recommend the Sal Burger in Carvalhal, the Sal on Pego Beach and the Pescadores O Dinis on Carvalhal Beach. For restaurants in Comporta, I would suggest Cavalerica, Museu do Arroz, Dona Bia and Praia do Peixe. The shops in Comporta are wonderful, especially Loja do Museu do Arroz and Stork Club, a home furnishings store in Carvalhal. Our favourite beaches are Praia do Pego, Aberta Nova and Carvalhal.
