In the maze of the old town's narrow streets, Place de la Madeleine suddenly forms an open space that can be admired from the apartment. The carefully chosen furniture shades in mahogany wood and dark marble, and the whiteness of the walls enhanced by the deep red of the terracotta tiles are a true tribute to the style of the First Empire. The ensemble unsurprisingly creates a fresh and tranquil atmosphere that envelopes guests whilst the Mediterranean sun heats up the ancient city outside.
I had been coming to the region very regularly for ten years. I came for the diversity of the landscapes and the cultural richness, and I decided to settle here in March 2017. I rediscovered the ever changing city of Béziers and chose to invest in it.
The facade of the building is in a classic Louis XVI style with Trianon-type balustrades at the edge of the roof. It is located on the most beautiful square in Béziers, the Place de la Madeleine, with a bird's eye view of the Madeleine Church which is classified as a Historic Monument. Built in the 11th and 14th centuries, the massacre of the Cathars took place here during the crusade against the Albigenses, led by Simon de Montfort at the beginning of the 13th century.
The apartment is located in a former mansion dating back to the end of the 18th century, it was divided into three floors in the 1950s. It has retained its original First Empire style and is located on the second floor which once served as the owners' rooms and private spaces. The cellars were used as shelters during the Second World War.
I offer a fully furnished property decorated with objects and furniture from the First Empire period - it is something of projection in time. The idea is for guests to spend their stay in a "museum" setting with all the necessary modern comforts in the kitchen and bathroom, as well as WiFi.
The Brasserie du Palais serves simple, high quality cuisine. The service is polite, the view is breathtaking and the prices are low. I also recommend strolling through the streets in the centre of Béziers and the square of the cathedral with its 180 ° view of Haut-Languedoc. The Palace of the Archbishops of Narbonne and the Musée de l'Ephèbe in Agde are also only thirty minutes away by car. Last but not least, the wild beaches of Sérignan are perfect for nature lovers.
