The Bastide du Jujubier, a small hamlet of three houses, seems determined to single-handedly embody the identity of these Var lands which gently undulate towards the sea. A family home with a well preserved spirit, it now houses holiday makers in the calm of an estate planted with vines and olive trees. Between land and the Mediterranean sea, there is so much to choose from: siestas by the swimming pool, hikes in the surrounding hills and dips in the sea. Whatever they decide, guests will savour a rare side of Provence which is hard to come by.
The Bastide du Jujubier is a family home that was bought sixty years ago by my grandfather. He knew the region well and wanted to settle here. Since then, successive generations have continued to maintain and improve the house.
Labelled a “Remarkable Bastide” by town planning, the Bastide du Jujubier dates from the 18th century. Accompanied by a farm, the property is a perfect example of a Provençal bourgeois habitat from the 17th and 18th centuries. From the heights of Ollioules near the Gros Cerveau, it enjoys a privileged geographical location with a panoramic view of the vineyards. Renovated over the years, the house has been considerably transformed to provide all the comforts of the modern day in an exceptional environment bathed in tranquillity and light.
Before acquiring the bastide six decades ago, my grandfather lived in Algeria. He returned to France during the war and decided to settle in Ollioules and buy an agricultural estate where he would begin growing immortelles. Next came olive trees, fruit trees of all kinds and vines. The house is now surrounded by vineyards and dozens of centuries-old olive trees, all just a few minutes from the sea.
The property is surrounded by an AOC Bandol vineyard of seven hectares, shaded terraces, a large swimming pool with a pool house, and an 800m² greenhouse. The real selling point is that the house benefits from a privileged environment offering absolute calm in a green setting less than ten minutes from the sea.
In Sanary, take a walk around the port to admire the peaks and the view, then explore the market (one of the most beautiful in France) before eating at Kima or Ô Petit Monde which both offer superb views of the Bay of Portissol. In Ollioules, get lost in the typical narrow streets of the historic centre, and admire the fountains and the Saint-Laurent church dating from the 11th century. On market days, finish with a drink at the Tabac de la Mairie to immerse yourself in a traditional Provençal atmosphere. Finally, take advantage of the region's wine heritage with a Bandol wine tasting at the Domaine de Terrebrune who take care of our vineyards. The Château de Pibarnon and the Domaine Tempier are also worth a visit.
3500 € - 5500 € per week
2000 € - 3000 € per week-end
The property consists of three separate buildings that can accommodate a total of sixteen guests. The main house can accommodate eight people (or ten with two additional beds in the office area). The Petit Mas and the Petite Maison can accommodate eight people between them. Five of the eight double bedrooms have their own bathrooms. The exterior includes a swimming pool, numerous terraces and lounge areas, a petanque court, parking, and an 800m² greenhouse. Getting here is relatively simple and parking is available on site.
