From the sober lines of the house and the immaculate whiteness of the interiors, to the contrasting hues of the parquet floors and waxed concrete, and the country atmosphere that fills the air - everything here tempts guests to lose themselves in the surrounding nature and enjoy every moment. Transformed, but not denatured, the Convent of Ormes now offers the best of itself: a warm welcome and a place to forget your worries.
We were looking for a weekend home near Paris, the Convent of Ormes enchanted us with its unique character, volumes, light and rich past.
The Convent is an former religious school and some architectural evidence of this still remains. Examples include the cross on the gable and the unfinished wall fresco in the old classroom. Tricentennial linden trees line the property.
Built in 1820, the Convent of Ormes quickly became a school before becoming a summer camp, and then an artist's studio. Today, the Convent is a unique and peaceful residence.
Our guests are always impressed by the volumes of the house, which allow you to gather around large tables and fires, or to find some peace and quiet. We wanted to maintain a clean appearance that enhances the spaciousness of the rooms and helps guests to relax. Cool in summer, warm in winter, it is an ideal starting point to visit the surrounding area.
"The Côte Saint-Jacques" is a Michelin-starred restaurant in Joigny - one we have personally tested and it is not to be missed. The property also has a lovely spa and swimming pool on the banks of the Yonne. The small chapel of St Félix in the middle of the Merry-la-Vallée forest is a beautiful, peaceful and secluded place. The village of St Aubin Châteauneuf nearby offers a beautiful panorama of the surrounding countryside. The Toucy market is a must-see just fifteen kilometres away - it is one of the most famous markets in the north of Burgundy. The castles of Saint-Fargeau and Guédelon will delight both young and old in search of interesting and fun activities. The Convent is halfway between the vineyards of Sancerre and Chablis.
