Built in the spirit of 1900s, this chalet has the allure of a town house. It is relatively discreet but recognisable by its red-edged shutters. The shock is all the greater when stepping through the door: materials, furniture, fabrics and even the smallest of objects have been chosen with a rare degree of care and exacting standards. A few subtly arranged elements remind guests of the neighbouring mountains, they need only open the windows to admire them. All in all, Le Pionnier is a place whose extreme comfort dressed in simplicity will delight skiers in winter, hikers in summer, and all lovers of this mythical village.
During trips and weekends away, we both enjoy discovering authentic hotels and guest houses, savouring local and foreign cuisines, and enjoying local experiences. With a passion for the art of living, good food and hospitality, and with the concept of "bubbles of happiness and the creation of memories" at our core, we too wanted to create authentic houses which tell stories, represent regions, and enjoy the pleasure of being surrounded by many thoughtful gestures. And that is what led us, in 2014, to begin offering places centred around three values: authenticity, freedom, and sharing. Le Pionnier is a chalet located in the heart of Megève, an authentic village with a soul, and is a product of our dreams and our project.
Beyond its proximity to nature, the chalet is located in the centre of the village of Megève and reflects the spirit that reigned here at the beginning of the 20th century. It has a rectangular base and three floors, one of which is an attic floor. It is topped with an overhanging half-hipped roof featuring a dormer window with a domed roof pediment. The street facade has five French windows, two of which (those on the first floor) open onto a balcony with a panoramic view of the mountains. Inside, the artisanal pieces and rustic materials recall the history of the pioneering farmers who knew how to tame the mountains. Authentic, bright, and spacious, it is a veritable cocoon with a warm and cosy atmosphere. The property is certainly an ideal place to get closer to nature, at the foot of the slopes in winter and across the hiking trails during the rest of the year.
The village of Megève developed slowly until Savoie became a part of France and the first ski competition was later created in 1914. Mathilde Maige-Lefournier, a mountaineering journalist from Chambéry, energised and enlightened the village with her articles and influence. The arrival of the Rothschild family, and the inauguration of their hotel in Mont-d'Arbois in 1921, accelerated the development of skiing in Megève and triggered the "era of construction" which was marked by the emergence of private holiday chalets. Although contemporary, the Pionnier chalet was inspired by this history and aligns with it. It is an integral part of the Grand Hôtel du Soleil d'Or, a five-star hotel with etiquette and well-being at its core which reopened in December 2019. This mythical hotel in Megève was the first to open here in 1901.
A stay in the heart of Megève, a place which shines at the top of the list of France's most beautiful ski resorts. A chalet with a deliciously vintage character which is authentic in its history, its decoration, its values and its respect for the inimitable French way of life. Both cosy and spacious, it has four bedrooms with private bathrooms and a number of living areas including a living room, a dining room and a kitchen. It allows guests to be together whilst also enjoying their privacy. A whole universe has been created around the history of the region and the land that surrounds it. Each object has a special place in the house which has been designed to really make you feel at home. The real bonus is that guests can take advantage of the services provided by the Grand Hôtel du Soleil d'Or which include vintage room service, private chefs, and a 5-star concierge service for organising tailor-made stays.
Just a stone's throw from the chalet is the Grand Hôtel du Soleil d'Or with a hammam, sauna and swimming pool that are free to use for our guests. The hotel's bistronomic restaurant serves dishes that immerse you in the Savoyard terroir with an added touch of modernity. Also at the hotel is La Chocolaterie, a kingdom of temptation where visitors can discover sweet and savoury chocolate delights or enjoy a hot chocolate with nostalgic flavours. The hotel spa even offers sensory chocolate experiences such as mindful chocolate tastings and chocolate scented massages. On the heights of the village, the Flocon de Sel is a gastronomic run by Emmanuel Renaut, a chef with three Michelin stars. Anne-Sophie Pic, the most starred female chef in the world, revisits her Savoyard-style classics at La Dame de Pic in Châlet 1920.
14000 € - 33600 € per week
The chalet has a living room with a fireplace, an equipped kitchen and a dining room on the ground floor. The four bedrooms each have a private bathroom. Two are on the first floor and the other two are on the attic floor.
