In the heart of this city in Provence, which knew success and wealth, the house bears witness to the splendours of the Renaissance. It was threatened with ruin at the turn of the 21st century, but there is no sign of this now. The structure, layout, fine details and refined décor are all there, just as they were in the time of Richelieu, who once stayed here. On the ground floor, the flat has direct access to the courtyard, patio and garden. Inside, the rooms follow on from one another under high vaults or French-style ceilings, each adorned with features that highlight the beauty of the architecture. What better way to discover the history of the surrounding Provençal countryside?
We chose Provence because it is a region that combines authenticity, diversity and the art of good living. We were seduced by its perfect balance of historical treasures, generous welcome, delicious gastronomy and gentle way of life. The region embodies the soul of the South and is a timeless, magical place to live.
It is a listed building in the magnificent Arles Mannerist style. The town house is three storeys high. The Renaissance façade still retains some elements of the Louis XII style, as does the interior with its groin vaults and monumental fireplaces. In the court of honour, behind the main door, mullioned windows framed by pilasters are decorated with various motifs representing the four seasons. The south-south-east-facing flat occupies the entire ground floor of the private mansion. Four-sided vaulted ceilings cover the large living room, the billiard room with a fireplace, the open kitchen, the dining room and the library. Two courtyards and a garden divide it into living spaces on the same level. All rooms have access to the outside.
Listed as a historic monument in 1943, in the midst of the Second World War, the proud fortified house used as a private mansion was built around 1530 during the First French Renaissance, from which it took most of its features. The prosperity of the town of Tarascon led to many noble families settling there from the 15th century onwards. Saved from ruin in 2010, the private mansion, which bears the names of its successive historic occupants, has undergone an extraordinary restoration. It owes its architectural richness and delicate ornamentation to François de Clémens, who remodelled it in the 17th century. The private mansion is proud to have welcomed Cardinal de Richelieu, who came in person to witness the dismantling of the Beaucaire fortress.
A property made for heritage and history lovers. A cultural experience in the centre of Tarascon, a city with over 2000 years of history and a wealth of historic monuments. The city is bordered by the Rhône, which offers a whole host of water-based activities. We provide a warm welcome and are delighted to share our passion for architecture. The flat has three outdoor areas: the large main courtyard, spanning around 90 m2, dotted with antique Anduze vases bearing elegant palm trees; the patio, measuring around 60 m2, which includes a sculptural tribute to Michelangelo's Moses under the graceful helm of the bell tower of the collegiate church of Sainte-Marthe; and the large garden of over 280 m2, teeming with plants such as jasmine, rosemary, sage, honeysuckle and wisteria.
