Surville, Eure Haute-Normandie FR

Property owners’ take the floor

Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

Simply because the house is family property, so it was not exactly strategic decision to settle here.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

We ensure that all of our guests feel at home here as they read a book by the fireplace in the living room, enjoy a massage at the spa or simply relax in the sauna or steam room. As for the cuisine, we have made it our priority, along with our chef, to showcase local and organic products by offering a seasonal “Retour du marché” menu. We also like to surprise our guests with more unusual activities nearby such as the hot air balloon ride that departs from the garden.

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

It is made of up of two buildings, the first is a 16th century farmhouse that is listed as a historic monument, the architecture is typical to France with half-timberings and small tiles. The second is a 19th century building made from brick. Both have been completely renovated with great care.

Places you would personally recommend

Aside from our restaurant and the property’s grounds, there is certainly no lack of attractions nearby - the Château d’Acquigny being a prime example, not only has it been classed as a historic monument but it has also been awarded the ‘Outstanding Gardens’ label. A little further away are the stunning Château du Champ de Bataille gardens which are the private property of Jacques Garcia, and the Bec-Hellouin, which is one of the most beautiful villages in France.

What is its history ?

Two years of hard work have gone into creating a welcoming environment for our guests here.

Our opinion

All that remains of the Manoir de Surville's original features are the bricks and half-timberings of its classified and century old façade. As for the interior, guests are welcomed into a four-star hotel that has been largely redecorated by its young owners. This property is the perfect stopover in Normandy and with features such as the Cinque Monde spa, it offers modern style and comfort throughout. Beneath the recently restored joists, the ground level terrace and the lush green lawns, the Manoir de Surville still embodies all the charms of Normandy that will never grow old.
