It was in December 2020 that my wife, our six children and I fell under the Château Beaulieu's spell. We fell in love with this magnificent charterhouse surrounded by seventeen hectares of vineyards. Originally from Charentes, I have a passion for wine and wanted to use my entrepreneurial spirit to breathe new life into the chateau by restructuring the vineyard, increasing the quality of wines, opening the chateau to the public and launching a holiday resort. Many projects are already underway to promote the chateau and add a new chapter in its history.
Château Beaulieu is set in an exceptional terroir in the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards. Nestled in the heart of nature in the Côtes-de-Bourg valleys, it boasts a stunning view of the seventeen hectares of vineyards that are cultivated with a passion and expertise that guarantees exceptional wines. The charterhouse is made up of a central two-storey pavilion, flanked by two extending wings that form a central courtyard and considerably increase the floor space of the chateau. One of the outbuildings houses our shop and tasting room. The ensemble was originally built on sloping land and has been enhanced by a terrace with a high retaining wall that balances out the slope.
Located in the middle of a valley covered with vineyards and woods, Château Beaulieu commands an area of twenty-five hectares, seventeen of which are devoted to winegrowing. The property's history dates back to the end of the 18th century when the notary of Samonac, Pierre Robert, built a Bordeaux Charterhouse in the heart of his wine estate. The origins of the estate, however, go back to prehistoric times. In around 1900, Émile Maufras (the owner at the time and author of "The History of Gironde") discovered a polished stone axe and arrowheads on the property. Since buying the chateau in 2020, we have been careful to respect the vineyard, the environment and the people and have decided to continue converting the vineyard to organic farming; a demanding process that will take several years to complete.

Five minutes from the chateau is the village of Bourg, classified as a "Village Ancien" and surrounded by ramparts, it stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Dordogne. The Sunday market in the town hall has a selection of local products. You can find white shrimp from the estuary there - a must-try Gironde aperitif. La Figue de Bourg, which you can try at Patisserie Blanleil, is a small local treat made from a tasty mixture of almond paste, fig, white chocolate and fig liqueur. The Island of Patiras and its lighthouse are also worth a visit. You can chat with the guardian who is passionate about the Gironde estuary and discover the island's restaurant where the chef serves authentic dishes made with local products and many plants that can be found on the island. Last but not least, take the Route de la Corniche on foot or by car - it connects the village of Bourg to Blaye along the Gironde estuary. You will spot many troglodyte houses along the way, some of which are still inhabited!
The chateau can accommodate up to twelve people. Facing due south, it is mostly on one floor, except for two bedrooms and a bathroom tucked away upstairs. The main through entrance hall is in the middle of the house, to the left of which are the communal rooms: the living room, the dining room and the fully equipped kitchen. They open onto the garden which has a small fireplace for cooking. To the right is a relaxation room with a sofa and an American billiards table, two bathrooms and five bedrooms, two of which open onto the south garden and one onto the pool terrace. At the end of the through entrance hall is the summer kitchen with a high table for wine tasting; it overlooks the north side on the pool terrace which is equipped with garden furniture.
