Location
The town of Beaumont-sur-Oise has 10,000 inhabitants and undeniable charm. It lies in the north of France’s Val-d’Oise department, in the country’s Île-de-France region that surrounds Paris. You can easily reach it via the A16 motorway. And from the local train station, a stone’s throw from the town centre, you can get to Paris in around 30 minutes by rail. The town has unique built heritage, epitomised by the cinema Le Palace, which was made with beams from the 1900 Paris Exposition. Local built heritage can also be found in the remains of the town’s old castle, perched above the valley. The River Oise, which flows through the town, invites you to enjoy strolls, as does the vast neighbouring forest, which is renowned for its biodiversity and its heart-shaped blue lake – an emblematic spot in the area. The house stands in the town centre.
Description
The house
The elegant dwelling with a 300m² floor area was built in 1905. It lies only 30 kilometres from Paris and embodies the refinement of the belle époque.
The ground floor
The entrance door leads to a series of connecting reception rooms with marble flooring. They are bathed in natural light. There is a triple-size living room with an 80m² floor area, a fireplace and a bar corner. It is spacious and welcoming. The fitted kitchen has a door that leads outside. A large walk-in wardrobe and a guest lavatory with a washbasin complete this floor.
The first floor
A wooden staircase leads up to the first floor. Wood strip flooring extends across the whole of this level. A landing connects to four bedrooms, including a spacious bedroom with a 20m² floor area. The latter room is bright and fitted with large storage spaces. Two of the other bedrooms are comfortably sized. The fourth one, which is smaller, is shaded by a tree in the garden and has a kept a hushed atmosphere. There are two shower rooms with a lavatory on this level. One of them has oriental decor and, with its alcove shower, recalls Moorish-style steam rooms.
The top floor
The top floor has sloping attic ceilings. It offers two extra bedrooms. One of these bedrooms is vast, with a 30m² floor area. It is filled with natural light and takes up the whole width of the facade. The other bedroom is more modestly sized and leads out onto a small balcony. An atypical bathroom, fitted with a hot tub, adjoins a corridor with many storage spaces. This space was originally designed for a steam room to be created here. Old wood-strip flooring extends across the whole level.
The garden-level floor
The garden-level floor can be reached both from inside and from the court. It houses additional rooms: an office, a shower room with a lavatory, a fitness room, a secondary kitchen, a boiler room and large storage spaces. Two garages, a workshop and a wine cellar complete this level.
Our opinion
This remarkable dwelling combines the attributes of an upper-middle-class house with the comfort of a modern home. Its well-preserved, understated belle époque architecture, its town-centre location and its practical layout, spread out over three levels, make it a rare gem in this charming town in the north of France’s Val-d’Oise department, close to the French capital and to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. Behind its elegant elevations, there are spacious, bright rooms that create a refined, welcoming atmosphere. The garden-level floor offers a range of possibilities. And the top floor, with its hot tub and potential for a steam room, is a true haven of well-being. This house is for anyone looking for a backdrop that blends history, comfort and practicality.
