A prestigious Parisian apartment, fully renovated with noble materials,
beside Serge Gainsbourg’s old house in the city’s elegant 7th arrondissement
Paris, PARIS paris 75007 FR

Location

The street Rue de Verneuil lies in the French capital’s so-called Quartier des antiquaires (literally “antiques dealers district”), between the roads Quai Voltaire and Rue de l’Université. The street, formerly known as Allée du Jardin-de-la-Reine-Marguerite, was opened in 1640. It bears the name of Henri de Bourbon, Duke of Verneuil, who was the son of King Henry IV of France. The apartment’s unique backdrop is typical of the 7th arrondissement of Paris, a markedly elegant area of the city with publishing houses and art galleries punctuating the district between the streets Rue du Bac and Rue des Saints-Pères. The metro stations Rue du Bac (line 12) and Saint-Germain-des-Prés (line 4) are only 400 metres from the property. Indeed, the district is well connected to public transport.

Description

The five-floor edifice was built in the second half of the 19th century. It is set back from the street. Its facade of dressed stone is classical in design, with windows beneath elegant arched pediments with keystones sculpted with mascarons, scallop shells and floral motifs. You step through a carriage entrance door framed between pilasters with Doric capitals. The covered entrance area leads to a tree-dotted inner court and to a hall that takes you to the fourth-floor apartment via a lift or a staircase. One particularity of the edifice is that each floor has only one dwelling. Once you have stepped through the apartment’s entrance door, you find yourself in a hallway. This hallway leads into a spacious lounge filled with natural light. This lounge is extended with a modern open-plan kitchen that features a beige marble island unit. The apartment has been fully renovated. Its pale oak chevron parquet is truly remarkable. The hues of this flooring go well with the brushed brass of the lights and switches. A grey marble fireplace, a token of the 19th century, adds a touch of elegance to the lounge. There are two bedrooms with a refined atmosphere. The first one has a wardrobe, a beige marble shower room with a double-size shower and a lavatory. The second bedroom is more spacious. It has a large walk-in wardrobe and an office area. Its adjoining bathroom is majestic, with mottled green marble and an elegant bath. A separate lavatory with a marble washbasin lies beside it. The taps are contemporary in design with a light black tone. To ensure optimal comfort, the whole apartment is fitted with reversible air conditioning powered by a heat pump.

Our opinion

This Parisian apartment is tucked away in the heart of one of the most highly sought-after districts of the French capital. The neighbourhood is a subtle blend of understated elegance and an intellectual and artistic spirit typical of the Parisian left bank. In this area, you can admire townhouses designed by the greatest architects of the 17th and 18th centuries. In short, the property lies in an eminently prestigious spot. Indeed, it is the promise of a refined lifestyle for the most demanding city-dwellers. The apartment is truly unique. The masterful renovation of the dwelling avoided showiness to favour quality of materials and fluidity in its lines. Here, the tiniest detail was carefully considered to create today’s chic decor.
