Location
In this refined and emblematic arrondissement of the capital, rue Saint-Dominique is located in the prestigious Gros-Caillou district, linking the Champ-de-Mars and the Hôtel des Invalides and boasting an excellent selection of shops. The area owes its name to the monolithic boundary marker which - in the Middle Ages and when it was only a succession of farmlands - ensured the demarcation between the lands granted by the king to the parishes of Sainte-Geneviève and Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Today, the district is home to the most emblematic of all Parisian monuments: the Eiffel Tower. But the Iron Lady is not the only treasure of the grand avenues of the 7th arrondissement: the Musée d'Orsay and its collection of impressive impressionist works is nearby, as is the Musée Rodin and its sculpture garden. There are many state and private schools in the area, as well as all the amenities needed for family life. The La Tour-Maubourg metro station (line 8) is in the immediate vicinity, as are bus lines 69, 92 and 80 and the rich variety of food shops on Rue Clerc.

The living room has been fitted with custom-made furniture, and the dining room with built-in bookshelves and plenty of storage space. The former bedroom to the rear has been converted into a kitchen, which could easily be turned back into the original closed bedroom. The bathroom includes a free-standing bath, a washbasin and a toilet.
The building
On the street side, the building is typical of the rue Saint-Dominique. The classical and sober facade was erected around 1850. The block of flats was originally intended for middle-class housing. On the courtyard side, it served as a storage place for flour.
The flat
The south-facing apartment is located on the first floor and benefits from plenty of light. Extending across a surface area of 44.5 m², it has a comfortable ceiling height. Behind the small entrance area, the main room extends over 30 m² with original exposed beams, stone lintels and parquet flooring. The living room has been fitted with custom-made furniture, and the dining room with a home library and plenty of storage space. At the rear, the former bedroom has been converted into a kitchen, which could easily be turned back into a closed room, as it was before.
The modern style bathroom features a free-standing bathtub and glass basin. It is decorated with sophisticated grey wallpaper combined with soft blue walls.
Our opinion
The talented architect has created a living space that is both classic and atypical. From wooden beams to stone columns. From glass basins to the design of almost a modern box-bed. He has achieved the restoration of the flat to its former glory, making use of all the volumes to create a fluid, functional and bright complex. Moreover, he has taken care to design the spaces in perfect harmony with the rules of feng-shui, an ancient art aiming at harmonising the energy of a place to promote well-being, health and prosperity.
The location of the flat is also ideal: close to the green spaces of the Champ-de-Mars, the Invalides and the main avenues, it is nevertheless quiet and easy to live in. All the more so as all the amenities are just a stone's throw away.
