Renovation works were committed to enhancing the wood in this flat. This began with the roofing framework whose geometry is reflected in every room since the flat is on the top floor. The result is astonishing and full of character. Partition walls, recuperated doors and parquet flooring: this material is like a theme highlighting craftsmanship and authenticity. “Azulejos” (painted, tin-glazed ceramic tiles) are another feature: the heart of the country beats here in Baixa, in these purposely designed buildings wanted by the prime minister in the 18th century. A nearby restaurant dating from the same era is where Fernando-Pessoa met his friends. The reception rooms are separate from the bedrooms in this flat, although this layout which is easy to move around could quite easily be reorganised.
