Location
At the gateway to the 14th arrondissement, the property stands in a rapidly changing quarter at the junction of Paris and Montrouge. Long understated, Montrouge has transformed considerably in recent years, establishing a confident urban character of its own. Its town centre, arranged around the hôtel de ville and the belfry, now draws attention for the quality of its public spaces, its food shops and neighbourhood addresses — where the codes of Parisian life have gradually taken hold. Transport connections are excellent, notably via line 4 of the metro, giving rapid access to the heart of the capital.
Description
An entrance hall with a guest lavatory leads to a kitchen large enough for everyday dining. The interior then unfolds dramatically around two reception rooms whose ceiling height reaches nearly 5.5 m. Large glazed panels occupy the upper section of the facade walls above full-height glazed doors opening onto a continuous balcony, flooding the space with light. The outlook is entirely open — unobstructed and skyward. Floors are laid in straight-plank parquet, and the timber staircase rising to a gallery above has been richly carved by Edmond Malassis in a Gothic style.
The gallery gives onto the sleeping quarters: three bedrooms, a bathroom and a lavatory, with the possibility of adding a shower room within one of the bedrooms. Facing the garden, the bedrooms enjoy complete quiet and full privacy. Two black marble fireplaces are among the original features preserved. Two cellars complete the property.
Our opinion
Crowning an early 20th-century building, this home sets itself apart by the nobility of its proportions and the lightness of its atmosphere. The great reception rooms, open to the sky, create a singular setting — almost theatrical in quality. Throughout, the hand of Edmond Malassis is felt: an ornamental artist whose carved work still graces several Parisian monuments, his contribution lends the whole an elegance that stands outside time. To the garden side, absolute quiet and two black marble fireplaces deepen this sense of timelessness. An inspired space, where spatial composition becomes a way of life.
