A fully renovated flat on the first floor of a private
mansion from 1907, in downtown Lorient
Lorient, MORBIHAN brittany 56100 FR

Location

Known as the “City with five ports”, and a “City of art and history”, Lorient is one of southern Brittany’s major economic and cultural hubs, while the city is also renowned for its yacht race as well as the famous Inter-Celtic Festival, the high point of the summer season. Recognised as one of the most pleasant French cities to live in, the city combines a mild climate with a peaceful living environment, a rich cultural life and a real sense of energy, whereas the high-speed rail station provides service to Paris in three hours.
As for the airport, it is right nearby, while the flat, within immediate proximity to the city centre, train station as well as a cinema, is also within walking or cycling distance to all essential shops for daily life.

Description

The flat is located on the first floor of a three-storey private mansion from 1907 built over a basement level, which was constructed on the corner of two streets whose ashlar stone façades reflect the bourgeois aesthetic inherited from the Haussmannian style, while the edifice itself was designed by the architect L.-M. Dutartre. With one flat per landing, the L-shaped dwelling, facing southeast and northwest, extends over a floor area of approximately 92 m² and provides fluid circulation as well as sizeable proportions.
A small foyer provides access to a living room extended by a dining room and an open kitchen, with a total of 45 m², whereas, from the foyer, a hallway leads to two bedrooms, with approximately 15 and 11 m², respectively, a shower room, accessible via arched glass double doors, and a lavatory. With straight-plank parquet floors throughout, the flat’s windows are safeguarded by ornate wrought-iron guardrails, while the flat, which comes with a storage unit in the basement, was recently and completely renovated with the finest materials.

Our opinion

In one of Lorient’s few pre-war private mansions, this first-floor flat, redesigned in an understated and sunny Art Deco style, features a clear and balanced layout, which highlights its pleasant dimensions and delightful luminosity. Within immediate proximity to shops and public transportation, it would provide a comfortable living environment as either a main residence or a pied-à-terre on the Brittany coast, while the Atlantic’s long beaches are only a stone’s throw away, as is the ferry to the Isle of Groix.
