A fourth-floor dual-aspect apartment in Paris that looks straight at the Gare de Nord
train station and its splendid facade listed as a historical monument
Paris, PARIS paris 75010 FR

Location

The Gare du Nord is Europe’s busiest train station: three-hundred million travellers use it each year. Steam engines once roared out of this historical transport hub. Today, those steam engines have given way to more modern means of transport: high-speed trains to France and abroad, the Paris regional rail network, buses, taxis and the city’s metro system.

The apartment’s seven French windows and continuous fourth-floor balcony give you an unrivalled view of a magnificent monument: the station’s emblematic facade. The renowned architect Jacques Ignace Hittorff designed this splendid station in 1861. It was listed as a historical monument in 1975. Twenty-three statues adorn it. These works of art are five-and-a-half metres tall and were crafted by the leading sculptors of the time. They illustrate the railhead and its international destinations that lie a few hours away by high-speed train.

Description

The edifice of dressed stone in which the apartment is nestled features continuous balconies and a finely sculpted facade. It marks a cut-off corner that faces the Gare du Nord. A covered entrance area lies beyond the building’s carriage doorway. There, a gate is secured with an entry code system. A lift in the staircase’s axis leads up to all the floors.

The apartment offers a floor area of around 143m² on the building’s fourth floor. A hallway leads to five rooms in a row on the facade side. These spaces have French windows that take you out onto the continuous balcony. A passageway connects to three other rooms. Each one has a window that overlooks a court. The street-side rooms have largely kept their historical decorative features: oak chevron parquet, cornices, mouldings and a marble fireplace beneath a gold-framed trumeau mirror. The apartment was recently renovated. It includes a kitchen that opens into a dining room, a bathroom with a lavatory and a separate lavatory in the hallway. A professional practice could be based in this apartment.

Our opinion

This large apartment is ideally located for anyone who travels around Europe or further: the splendid train station opposite it is well connected to different transport networks – you can even get directly to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport from it. The dwelling’s fourth-floor balcony offers a spectacular view of the imposing, elegant facade of the Gare du Nord station. This vista beckons you to embrace adventure. The property could be used in countless ways. For example, it could be the office of a professional practice, it could be a permanent place of residence, or it could be rented out as student accommodation. This remarkable apartment where multiple means of transport meet would be a sound investment.
