Description
The apartment
The apartment lies on the second floor of an edifice that was built in the late 19th century. The dwelling is part of a commonhold with a wooden staircase that has a carpet and an original oak handrail. Inside the apartment, a well-balanced layout makes it easy to move between the different spaces. An entrance hall connects to the main room. This hallway has a floor area of around 4m² and built-in wall cupboards that extend up to the ceiling. The main room – the apartment’s lounge and dining area – offers a floor area of around 23m² and faces north. Its two windows offer a clear view of the River Seine and one side of Paris city hall: the famous Hôtel de Ville. Cupboards have been built into the walls of the main room so you can move around this space as smoothly as possible. A fireplace in this room adds to the apartment’s charming authenticity. An open-plan fitted kitchen completes the lounge and dining area. This kitchen’s marble breakfast bar gives the space a convivial ambience. In the south section, two bedrooms can be reached separately on the apartment’s two sides. The master bedroom offers a floor area of around 9m² and is fitted with large wall cupboards. The second bedroom offers a floor area of around 8m² and is fitted with fold-out bunk beds. The two bedrooms connect to a bathroom. There is a lavatory near them too.
Our opinion
This delightful property is a unique jewel. The riverside road Quai aux Fleurs where the apartment lies is an unrivalled spot on the island of Île de la Cité: the ancient heart of Paris. This special location alone makes the dwelling a rare gem. The apartment’s remarkable view of the River Seine and its northern bank is completely clear and unobstructed, making the place all the more enchanting. A little renovation work could turn the apartment into a splendid haven in which to live and make the most of one of its most precious assets: the possibility of strolling straight out into the city’s historical centre in just a few steps. Notre-Dame Cathedral and the capital’s famous flower market are only five minutes away on foot. From this prime location in an age-old district of Paris with a wealth of built heritage, you can enjoy gentle wanders around the picturesque island and, through windows that become paintings, contemplate a beautiful cityscape.
