Location
Still untouched by the hustle and bustle of Paris, the Faidherbe quarter cultivates a skilful blend of authenticity and avant-garde style. Halfway between the Place de la Bastille and the Place de la Nation, emblems of the rebellious, libertarian spirit that long enlivened the 11th arrondissement, the district was until recently the stronghold of cabinet-makers, as evidenced by the former Maison Boutet carpentry factory on Rue Faidherbe. To live here means to savour a very special atmosphere, to set up quarters on Rue Paul-Bert, to dream of far-off destinations in front of the leafy square Louis-Majorelle, to go to the Aligre market, and to marvel endlessly at the mix of architecture all around. In terms of transport, Faidherbe-Chaligny metro station (line 8) and bus routes 46 and 86 are a stone's throw from the flat, while Reuilly-Diderot metro station (line 1) and Charonne metro station (line 9) are just 500 metres away.
Description
A double glass door with small bevelled panes is connected to an intercom system. They provide access to the lift and staircase leading to the upper floors and to the cellar. The recently restored communal areas are extremely elegant, with decorative torch-holders, elaborate pediments, stucco garlands and stained-glass windows.
The 117 m² flat with a ceiling height of 3.20 metres is on the second floor, accessed by lift, and has a south/south-west aspect. The entrance hall, extended by a luminous corridor with views over the neighbouring rooftops, reveals a 44 m² double reception room. The first part has two French windows opening onto a balcony overlooking Rue Faidherbe and its lush foliage. The second, with its projecting window adorned with painted side panes and topped by a dragon, features a white-veined red marble fireplace with an overmantel mirror. Continuing through, there is a vast kitchen, followed by a 28 m² bedroom with a Louis XV-style fireplace and two French windows. The entrance hall also leads to a shower room with toilet and, opposite the kitchen, a larder with potential for a second shower room.
Herringbone parquet flooring, low-set moulded coffers, period espagnolette locks, bevelled glass tiles and stained-glass windows all contribute to the unspoilt charm of the property. Finally, the outdoor greenery is echoed by the decorative botanical mouldings, cornices and rosettes that adorn some of the rooms, lending a definite grace to this light-filled setting. A converted cellar completes the property.
Our opinion
Combining space, light and greenery, this flat lends itself equally to entertaining, family life or to running a business or professional practice. Aesthetes and poetic souls are called on to revive this place with its delicate details, which has lost neither its soul nor its shimmering cachet.
