Our opinion
Perugia is nearly two thousand five hundred years old. Its Etruscan walls still encircle the upper town, hewn from stone that no one has ever thought to question regarding its age. A villa, built in 1978 just a few minutes away, doesn’t play by those rules. It doesn’t claim to stand the test of time like a fortress. It prefers to surprise—even if it means unsettling people. Nothing about it is predictable. A patio interrupts one room, a portico frames another, and ceiling heights change without warning from one space to the next. No rule is repeated twice. It is an architecture that thinks in terms of breaks rather than continuity, and which, paradoxically, finds its coherence in this very rejection of expected coherence. Two thousand five hundred years on one side. A handful of decades on the other. And yet, at its core, the same idea: to build something that resembles nothing else.
