Location
This property is located in the heart of the upper Chevreuse valley regional natural park, in a village renowned for its past as a spa destination, spread around its church along the banks of the Petit Muce. Up to 1940, famous celebrities came to Forges to benefit from the healing properties of its waters. The grounds of the spa centre dating from that era as well as the eighteen-hole golf course are just a part of its outstanding natural setting. The nursery and primary schools can be reached on foot and school bus services take junior and senior high school students to their establishments in places such as Limours. From the train station in Briis-sous-Forges, 3.4 kilometres away next to the A10 motorway, the RER B station at Massy can be reached in 10 minutes.
Description
This two-storey building shares a wall with a neighbouring property and boasts living space of approximately 215 m², in addition to which there is a basement under the entire surface of the house. The gabled roof is made up of flat tiles on one slope and interlocking tiles on the other. The façades are rendered with partially exposed stonework.
The house is surrounded by greenery, protected from outside disturbances and boasts an unbeatable view of the grounds of the neighbouring 18th-century mansion.
The house
The ground floor
This level is made up of three main rooms: a vast, almost 45-m² lounge, a kitchen opening into a dining room and a bedroom with an en suite bathroom. The different spaces are separated from each other by double-leaf wooden doors. The dining room is separated from the kitchen by a central island unit at table support height. The rooms on the ground floor are equipped with windows or French windows fitted with shutters. Each of them looks onto the garden and enjoys views of the neighbouring mansion’s grounds. There is also a corridor leading to the staircase that climbs to the upper floor. The floor is paved with terracotta tiles.
The upstairs
This level has the same surface as the ground floor and is made up of four bedrooms with comfortable dimensions, which boast large windows that overlook the grounds of the neighbouring mansion. Each bedroom has an en suite bathroom and a wardrobe. In two of them, there are exposed beams, while in the larger two others, there are sloping ceilings. Apart from in the bathrooms, the flooring is carpeted.
The garden
A first, lawned part of the garden, which is adjacent to the mansion’s grounds, serves as a passageway towards the house, after which there is a wooded, slightly raised area on which the building stands. A small stream called Petit Muce can be seen on either side of the garden but runs underground through this part of the property.
Our opinion
This longhouse stands in an outstanding setting thanks to its proximity to an 18th-century mansion. Voluminous and functional spaces were created as part of the top-quality restoration in 1980. To adapt them to current tastes, redecoration would be a good idea. The five bedrooms, each of which has an en suite bathroom, as well as the nearby schools and services are all considerable advantages for a family wishing to set up home in a comfortable and green environment.
