Our opinion

This fortress, just a stone’s throw from the clear waters of the Gulf of Taranto, stands in the area around the little Baroque town of Nardò. Dating from the 16th century, this large medieval stronghold is in an outstanding state of preservation. Defended by a thick stone wall, it is looked down on by a tall square tower dominating the countryside and the grounds of the estate, now extending over 5,000 m². The exterior perimeter wall opens into a central courtyard that provides access to the castle’s various buildings and outbuildings. The inside bears witness to the past prosperity of the lords and owners of the premises, under high, vaulted ceilings, adorned with fine vestiges, sculpted bas-reliefs and painted frescoes. The flat roofs can be counted amongst the areas to be converted, giving this property further potential. This piece of history awaiting renovation will appeal to enthusiasts of old stone and enlightened investors, the Salento peninsula and the Apulia region being some of Italy’s most visited regions.
