Our opinion
On the edge of the Alentejo region, where the Guadiana River marks the border with Spain, a 93-hectare estate stretches across forests, pastures and olive groves. Classified as a Tourist Hunting Zone, the fully enclosed estate includes a 19th-century fortified farmhouse, a watchtower, a lake and eight farm buildings spread around a large courtyard. The buildings, which total nearly 1,200 square metres, are in need of gradual restoration. The holm oaks, pines and cork oaks planted in the 2010s make up 48 hectares of forest, while the lowlands, irrigated by six wells and a nearby canal, are suitable for crops or livestock. The classification as a silvo-pastoral zone allows for new projects. A few kilometres from Elvas, a fortified town listed as a World Heritage Site, and the Alqueva dam, the location is ideal for those looking for an agricultural estate or a tourism project in the Portuguese hinterland.
