Portugal’s Alentejo is a vast, little-populated, farming region free of visual nuisance with distant horizons, varied landscapes, rural and green tourism as well as some of the best of the country’s wines. Of the property’s 107 hectares, 85 ha are planted with farmed cork oak as well as olive trees and 12 ha have orange and mandarin trees. Water is not a problem here on “Mount Alentejano”, as two springs feed a dam in the upper section of the estate and are sufficient for irrigation purposes. The dwellings are typical of the area. Low on the ground, they are painted a brilliant white, edged with blue, under a tile roof supported on an exposed wooden roofing framework. Those who enjoy contemplation, lazing by the side of the 16 m long swimming pool, will not tire of the changing light on the plain, stretching for as far as the eye can see. The main house and its annex are, however, in need of minor renovation works.
