The river, at the foot of a steep slope, flows towards the town of Porto which gave its name to the produce of the vines nestling on the terraces. The everlasting and forever changing sight varies with the season and the time of day. This little, rural, 2-storey home is typical of the region. It is as robust as the blocks of granite from which it is built, just like all the buildings in the old villages in the north of Portugal. The kitchen, with a fireplace, is separate but linked to a home which awaits renovation and could also be extended. There is another local drink of which to partake whilst watching the boats go up or down the river Douro: the juice of the oranges picked locally.
