It is located just outside a vibrant town and is surrounded by calm countryside that is appreciated for its canals, woods and lakes. You can get to the property easily. Major roads take you to the beaches of Saint-Malo in 40 minutes. And Rennes city centre is 20 minutes away. From the train station in Rennes, you can reach Paris in 1 hour and 30 minutes by rail.

Description

The large 16th-century manor house stands beside its private lake. It is surrounded by more than one hectare of wooded grounds, through which a canal and waterfall flow. The renovated exterior is combined with a contemporary interior, which includes an extensive indoor swimming pool set in a space that connects to a sauna and steam room. The manor house offers 400m² of liveable floor area. It is completed with an 80m² self-contained apartment, a 40m² gîte and garages with a workshop that total 220m² in floor area. You first follow a large tree-lined drive that runs alongside a canal where ducks and moorhens frolic. The manor house then comes into view, in front of a vast lawn surrounded by majestic trees. The edifice is made of granite and is crowned with a slate roof. It has a main section with a ground floor and a first floor and windows set in surrounds of dressed stone. This section is flanked with two towers – one crowned with a pyramidal roof and the other with a steep hipped roof. In line with this main section, there is a long 19th-century section with timber extensions. These parts house a self-contained apartment and garages with a workshop. Standing at a right angle to the manor house, a granite outbuilding with a slate roof houses a gîte and garage. Parkland extends behind the manor house. There is a space for practising golf and lakeside terraces too. The lake is surrounded by weeping willows and silver poplars.

The manor house

The garden-level floor
The reception rooms and everyday living spaces on the ground floor have underfloor heating. They look out at both sides: towards the parkland and towards the lake. There is a vast modern kitchen bathed in natural light, a large lounge with a granite fireplace and big windows, a second lounge, and a billiard room with exposed ceiling beams and a fireplace. There are also many practical spaces and relaxation areas on this ground floor, including a spacious cloakroom in the entrance hall, a scullery, a wine cellar, a utility room with a goods lift, a sauna, a steam room and an indoor swimming pool with a view of the lake.

The first floor
You reach the first floor via a large wooden staircase with a patina of time. Up here, there is an 80m² master bedroom with two walk-in wardrobes and a spacious bathroom with a jacuzzi bathtub. Next, there are four 17m² bedrooms, two shower rooms, a music room, an office and a games room.

The apartment

The apartment lies up on the first floor, on the western side of the manor house. You enter it via a separate entrance door. It offers an 80m² floor area and is extended with a terrace that looks down at the lake. This extra dwelling has three bedrooms, including one with a shower room. There is also a bathroom, a lounge and an open-plan kitchen.

The gîte

The gîte lies up on the first floor of the outbuilding. It offers a 40m² floor area and has a lounge, an open-plan kitchen, a mezzanine and a shower room with a lavatory.

The garages

The garages are housed in the main building. You enter them via two electric doors. They offer a 150m² floor area. In the outbuilding, there is another garage with an electric door. It offers a 70m² floor area and includes a woodstore.

The parkland, canal and lake

The large tree-lined drive from the property’s main entrance runs alongside the canal, where ducks and moorhens bathe. The canal then flows into a 1,000m² lake via a little waterfall edged with ferns. The grounds, which cover over one hectare, are dotted with majestic trees. There are silver poplars, weeping willows and eucalyptuses. The estate also includes a space designed for playing golf.

Our opinion

This authentic Breton manor is a gem of built heritage beside a lake. The edifice has been renovated masterfully and is ideally located. Here a large family would appreciate both the spaciousness and cosiness that such traditional homes offer, tucked away in the middle of vast tree-dotted grounds. The whole property is well proportioned and pleasantly harmonious. It is punctuated with vast reception rooms and enhanced with modern comfort and wellness facilities. You could even make the place an events venue and, of course, draw visitors to the two gîtes. In addition to the bucolic lakeside backdrop, the delightful beaches of Saint-Malo lie a short distance away too.
