Description
As for the dwelling, it features pointed stone walls, ashlar stone quoins and a barrel tile gable roof, while all the rectilinear double-glazed windows and doors are also decorated with ashlar stone surrounds. With white-painted wooden shutters on the ground floor and small windows on the first, two pergolas extend the dwelling's eastern and western elevations.
Lastly, a grassy, tree-filled garden extends in front of the buildings and all the way to the swimming pool, which, along with an adjacent garage, occupies a corner of the lot.
The house
The ground floor
The glazed front door opens on to a hallway with a floor of cement tiles. This hall connects to a bathroom, a separate lavatory and a space with a fireplace that is currently separated with openwork panels but which could easily become a bedroom. From the entrance hall, a door leads to a dining room, which connects to a kitchen and a lounge. A door takes you outside. The dining room has sprung wood flooring and the sculpted stone and painted brick fireplace houses an insert. The room connects to a lounge, with a stone slab floor, bathed in natural light from garden-facing windows. This lounge also has a fireplace, featuring the same materials as the dining room, which has also been fitted with an insert. Next, there is an office. It has an open-hearth fireplace and a floor of stone slabs. The room leads to a scullery, which adjoins the kitchen. This kitchen has large windows that look out at the other part of the garden and the orchard. The walls are made of exposed stonework and square terracotta tiles adorn the floor. A door leads to a boiler room and linen room.
The upstairs
A stone staircase from the kitchen leads, first, to an intermediate level with a sloping attic ceiling. On this level, there is a loft space with a 9m² floor area. Next, further up, a broad landing connects to a bathroom, a separate lavatory and two bedrooms, one of which has a 35m² floor area and two walk-in wardrobes, each with approximately 5m². Sprung wood flooring or rush matting extend across the rooms.
The dovecote and its adjoining buildings
There is a dovecote that you can reach via stone steps. Like a sentry, this dovecote seems to keep watch over the property and mirrors the height of the trees. Abutting two utilitarian buildings, one of which has an upper level, the three outbuildings are aligned between the property's entrance and the dwelling. Exposed stonework forms the elevations and barrel or flat tiles cover the roofs.
The outbuildings
Former pig sheds have been turned into storerooms and an indoor two-car garage, accessible via a gravel drive, which is located in a corner of the property, with a floor-to-ceiling height of approximately 6 metres.
The swimming pool
Recently created, the octagonal swimming pool measures 6 x 4 metres and is surrounded by a wooden deck of approximately 90 m², followed by four tall stone walls, one of which is quite narrow, thereby creating a wide entrance to the swimming pool.
The garden
Enclosed by walls and featuring a well, it is located on either side of the dwelling and covers nearly 3,780 m², with, on one side, tall maritime pines, oaks and maples, which tower above its lawns, while, on the other side, the orchard is planted with walnuts, peaches, plums, pears, figs and quinces.
Our opinion
This former farmhouse with charming authenticity is a unique gem set in France’s beautiful Vienne department. It has been converted masterfully. Today, the whole property forms a pleasant country home thanks to the impressive renovation work that has been carried out on it. Indeed, this renovation work has respected the home’s architectural character. The place is elegantly understated in style. It would be the perfect second home or even a delightful main home. From the main house to the outbuildings, everything – volumes, shapes, materials and colours – is well balanced between the different spaces, both outside and inside. Rounding out the décor, the human-size garden and its swimming pool will undoubtedly please those who appreciate stately trees and peaceful dips in the pool.
