Of the original constructions here, only a barn and a few schist walls remain today. Yet thanks to major restoration and renovation work carried out alongside an architect, the house – today divided into three connected parts – has been converted in a resolutely modern spirit. From the road, you can only see a former woodstore and a barn, opposite a parking area for four vehicles. A broad wooden gate marks the entrance into the garden, where you are immediately struck by the beautiful vista. The south-facing edifice is crowned with a slate roof and displays elevations of stone and larch wood, punctuated with large picture windows. The reception rooms connect naturally to the outdoor spaces via a terrace beneath a timber pergola. Inside, the spacious rooms and smooth layout have been showcased with high-quality materials. A swimming pool, cleverly positioned with a sweeping view of the surroundings, becomes a natural extension of the house in summer, with a grassy garden and orchard beside it.

The house

The interior design made it possible to keep original historical features and to use high-quality materials. The house has two levels, yet it is designed for movement mainly on a single floor. Except for one bedroom, all the rooms lie on the ground floor. From an entrance hall, a corridor connects to two bedrooms with in-built wardrobes. These two bedrooms share a shower room. A lounge with a tiled floor and a fitted kitchen, made of granite and oak, leads out to the terrace, the swimming pool and the garden through large, double-glazed picture windows. A third bedroom, which is more isolated and lies beside a second shower room, also leads out to the terrace. Upstairs, there is a master bedroom. A straight staircase leads up to it. It is a bespoke staircase made of solid ash wood. This bedroom, which is comfortably spacious, offers a remarkable view. Wood strip flooring of bamboo extends across it.

The barn

The barn has been entirely restored. It has a Douglas fir roof frame and a Spanish slate roof. Its floor area opens up many possibilities for development. It could be a workshop, a storeroom, a garage for two vehicles or a utility room with a range of household appliances. A woodstore adjoins it. Inside this woodstore there is a heat pump. This is the only space that has not been renovated.

The garden and its remarkable view

The garden enjoys absolute privacy and is plainly landscaped. It stretches towards a remarkable linden tree and an orchard, which is more recent. The agricultural plots that immediately surround the property cannot be built upon. This gives the backdrop a truly rural character, yet the vibrant city of Brive-la-Gaillarde is not far away.

The swimming pool

The entirely in-ground swimming pool was built in 2020. It forms a direct link between the interior and the garden. It is a transition between the house and its garden.
