Description
The residence
This tuffeau stone-built edifice has three storeys one of which is in the attic space. Cornices underline the windows and roof, which is made of slate tiles and is dotted with two gable dormers with triangular pediments to the north. On the south side, the walls are rendered, while the quoins as well as window and door frames are made of made of tuffeau stone. The roof is punctuated by a wall dormer with a triangular pediment and a veranda protects the door.
The ground floor
From the street, at the top of several steps, a wooden door opens into an entrance hall paved with mosaic tiles, while opposite a door leads into the courtyard. The entrance leads to a double lounge on one side and a dining room on the other. The lounge is divided into two separate spaces separated by an arch spanning its full width with a marble fireplace standing against one of the walls. Part of the lounge has wood stripped flooring, while the other part is paved with stone slabs. At the end of it, a door leads into a perpendicularly set building awaiting restoration. There is wood stripped flooring throughout, the ceiling boasts mouldings as well as a central rose, there is wood panelling on the walls and the room has a marble fireplace. The kitchen can be reached via the entrance and the dining room. It has a tiled floor and painted walls. A door from it opens into a hallway leading to a scullery as well as to a shower room with a lavatory. A door leads outside from this room, beneath the terrace.
The first floor
The staircase climbs to a landing after which there is a corridor leading to all the rooms, with painted walls and wood stripped flooring throughout. To the side, a first door opens into two bedrooms, one after another, with a bathroom. There is exposed tuffeau stonework on one of the walls. The second bedroom leads to another bedroom, with a marble fireplace, that is bathed in light through tall windows. The corridor then leads to a further bedroom with a marble fireplace and an adjoining bathroom. Opposite, another door opens into a shower room with a lavatory. Lastly, there is a final bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe. It also has French windows that open onto the roof terrace.
The attic
This level can be reached via the staircase and through a door. It extends over the residence’s entire surface and is insulated as unused roof space.
The annex and its workshops
This edifice faces east and is next to the perpendicularly set wing. The building is divided into two parts. The first, to be restored, is made up of a room with a tuffeau stone fireplace and a wooden staircase climbing to an attic room. There are also a boiler room and a hallway leading to the residence’s lounge. The second part is occupied by three rooms used as workshops. They can be reached from the courtyard via a large, glazed door and from the rear by a door. The floors are paved with stone slabs in the first and with tiles in the others. In the last space, the roof frame is exposed and a wooden staircase climbs up to a mezzanine.
The outbuildings
There are three outbuildings adjacent to the main residence. The first is made up of several workshops, the second, which is partially open onto the courtyard, also includes a storeroom, while the third is a former joinery workshop bathed in light through south-facing windows.
The garden
Following the wide courtyard that runs alongside part of the outbuildings, the garden stretches out to the south and to the rear of the former joinery workshop. The lawned area is dotted with several trees and flower beds.
Our opinion
This is a property with multiple potential, able to be adapted to a variety of projects. The residence still boasts some beautiful decorative features and could welcome a relatively large family thanks to its five bedrooms plus vast reception rooms. Restoration of the annex would provide further living space or the creation of independent accommodation. However, the distinctive feature of this property is definitely the many workshops and outbuildings, which could meet the needs of a craftsperson, artist or - why not? - a collective.
