Location
On the periphery of the Fausses-Reposes forest, Ville d’Avray has, for centuries, cultivated a sophisticated living environment, while, previously appreciated by artists and authors alike, the town owes part of its renown to the famous Corot ponds, whose reflections once inspired the painter Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot.
Only a few kilometres from Paris, via either the Sèvres-Ville-d’Avray train station or the metropolis’s major thoroughfares, the capital can be reached in a matter of minutes, whereas Ville-d’Avray, scattered with ponds, woods and beautiful homes, features a peaceful and sought-out setting, where nature and elegance create a privileged lifestyle on the outskirts of Paris.
Description
With a floor area of approximately 340 m², the three-storey dwelling – with a cellar – is cadenced by many windows, safeguarded by louvred shutters, which provide ample sunlight for its interiors, whereas a glass conservatory extends the living areas and offers unobstructed views of the garden’s lawns and trees. As for the patio, subtly integrated within the composition, it is an invitation for convivial outdoor moments in nice weather, while the property blends in seamlessly with its surroundings and combines simplicity and la dolce vita with a verdant backdrop.
The Dwelling
The ground floor
With peaceful views of the ponds, the dwelling’s sunny ground-floor rooms are accessible via steps scattered here and there as well as a hallway that provides fluid circulation, while the front door opens directly on to the main living room, with a floor area of approximately 40 m² and a floor-to-ceiling height of 3.1 metres, which accentuates this overall feeling of space. With a central fireplace, providing an inviting note, this room is extended, at a right-angle, by a glass conservatory, which acts as a link between the living room and an immense room topped with a cathedral ceiling and divided into a TV/reading room as well as a study crowned with an overhead mezzanine.
In addition, a dining room abuts the eat-in kitchen with its oriel window, creating a panoramic viewpoint, whereas this level, with oak parquet floors throughout, forms a warm and enticing level whose rooms are bathed in dazzling luminosity.
The first floor
On the first floor, four bedrooms face the tranquil ponds and enjoy unobstructed views where water and light cadence the different hours of the day, while the main bedroom comes with a hallway lined with deep built-in cupboards, a bathroom, a lavatory as well as a wardrobe.
With three other bedrooms on this floor, including two with a shared balcony-terrace, facing the landscape, a second bathroom and a shower room meet the needs of daily life, whereas an additional lavatory rounds out the rooms on this sunny floor, designed for each person’s comfort and privacy.
The second floor
The dwelling’s second floor contains a comfortable and sunny space, featuring two bedrooms, a shower room and a separate lavatory. One of the rooms comes with a large adjacent patio, while, thanks to their elevated position, they all enjoy breath-taking vistas of the ponds, providing a sense of peace and natural wonder. As for this floor, it seamlessly blends privacy with functionality, so that one and all can enjoy the peaceful setting and panoramic views on a daily basis.
The Garden
In front of the dwelling and along either side, the garden naturally echoes the elegant dwelling and acts as a landscaped introduction to the property. Surrounded by a low stone wall topped with thin metal panels, it ensures a smooth transition between the dwelling’s architecture and the surrounding environment, while, in one corner, a covered outdoor area, large enough for one vehicle, extends the car park located next to the property’s gate.
Bedecked with flowers thanks to its many flowerbeds, the garden’s delicate vegetation highlights the view without ever obstructing it, whereas this verdant outdoor space is separated from the nearby ponds by a small pedestrian path that runs alongside the water, underscoring this area’s undeniable serenity.
Our opinion
On the periphery of the city, but sheltered from its bustling activity, this property enjoys a prime address on the banks of the Corot Ponds. From its interior spaces and garden, water and foliage create a constantly changing and picturesque landscape, reminiscent of the Impressionism movement, whose artists once flocked here searching for this region’s inimitable light, such as Camille Corot, after which the ponds are named.
As for its interior, punctuated by several steps and facing the ponds, it provides fluid circulation and a peaceful environment, while this dwelling, as comfortable to live in as its views are enchanting, is immersed in a tranquil setting on the outskirts of Paris.
