Location
Châtenay-Malabry is a town that combines modern town planning and natural heritage. The Chastenay district stands out thanks to its peaceful as well as green setting and is close to several sites of interest, such as the Vallée-aux-Loups park and the house of Chateaubriand, a historical residence dedicated to the writer, chronicler and politician, who once owned the estate as well as the park in Sceaux and its mansion. The area boasts good public transport links, particularly via the RER B train-line that allows the townsfolk to reach Paris and the surrounding region with ease, while benefiting from the peace and quiet of an outer suburban town.
Description
The house
The ground floor
A glazed wooden door leads into this level. After the entrance, to the left there is a large, almost 45-m² lounge with a ceiling height of 4.5 metres, a floor paved with ochre-coloured tiles and a brick wood-burning insert. Light floods into the room through two sizeably dimensioned windows, which are fitted with electric roller shutters. From the lounge, a door leads into the comprehensively fitted kitchen which opens out onto the patio. Opposite the lounge, a corridor leads to three bedrooms, measuring 11 m², 12 m² and 15 m². All of them boast French windows also opening out onto the garden and patio. Each of the bedrooms also has wardrobe space. The shared bathroom, tiled in a style designed to reflect different shades of stone, has a double washbasin, bath, walk-in shower and bidet, while there is a lavatory off the corridor. Next to the entrance door, there is a lawn that is particularly ideal for a washing line but which could also be used for a vegetable garden. Finally, the downstairs level is completed by a utility room.
The upstairs
A wooden staircase leads to the second level, where a mezzanine space with a floor made up of solid wooden floorboards looks down onto the lounge. The spacious master bedroom has a large wardrobe as well as an en suite bathroom with a bath. Lastly, an office space that can be found at the very end of the upstairs floor could be transformed into an extra bedroom if necessary.
Our opinion
This house and its neighbourhood combine may practical aspects with a special living environment, especially for families, retirees or otherwise people looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the centre of Paris and work or relax in the tranquillity of a peaceful residential sector. It is a living space with simple traits yet well-defined forms, soft but lively colours, well thought out spaces and cleverly lit volumes, that is neither ostentatious nor excessive.
