Sceaux, HAUTS-DE-SEINE paris 92330 FR

Location

Châtenay-Malabry is a town that combines modern town planning and natural heritage. The Chastenay district stands out thanks to its peaceful as well as green setting and is close to several sites of interest, such as the Vallée-aux-Loups park and the house of Chateaubriand, a historical residence dedicated to the writer, chronicler and politician, who once owned the estate as well as the park in Sceaux and its mansion. The area boasts good public transport links, particularly via the RER B train-line that allows the townsfolk to reach Paris and the surrounding region with ease, while benefiting from the peace and quiet of an outer suburban town.

Description

The first occupants and designers of this house imagined and built this house in the late 1980s in a quiet, leafy lane in a peaceful, residential neighbourhood. The entrance to the property is via a pedestrian gate opening onto the street, while a second, larger gate leads to the garage. The lush garden, most of which is made up of lawns, surrounds the house. For greater peace of mind, the property has a burglar alarm. This two-storey building, oriented east and west, boasts a pleasant aspect. It comprises two angled sections with white rendered brick facades (except where the two sections meet) boasting large picture windows and is topped by flat-tiled gable roofs with skylights and wall dormers with circular pediments. It is a spacious residence into which light streams, boasting a living space with a surface of a little under 200 m², possessing a large lounge with 4.5-metre-high ceilings and French windows opening out onto the garden and patio. The master bedroom is on the upper floor with an en suite bathroom and an office. On the ground floor, there are three bedrooms which all open onto the garden and patio. A large garage can accommodate a car and motorbike or several bicycles. The almost 50-m² patio leads directly onto the garden, with its dimensions making it ideal for meals with family or friends. It is surrounded by a lawn, which makes up the most part of the garden. A variety of different types of trees are planted around the edge of the property, such as conifers and maples, creating a wall of greenery that ensures the house is not overlooked by the neighbouring house and is protected from any noise in the immediate vicinity.

The house

The ground floor
A glazed wooden door leads into this level. After the entrance, to the left there is a large, almost 45-m² lounge with a ceiling height of 4.5 metres, a floor paved with ochre-coloured tiles and a brick wood-burning insert. Light floods into the room through two sizeably dimensioned windows, which are fitted with electric roller shutters. From the lounge, a door leads into the comprehensively fitted kitchen which opens out onto the patio. Opposite the lounge, a corridor leads to three bedrooms, measuring 11 m², 12 m² and 15 m². All of them boast French windows also opening out onto the garden and patio. Each of the bedrooms also has wardrobe space. The shared bathroom, tiled in a style designed to reflect different shades of stone, has a double washbasin, bath, walk-in shower and bidet, while there is a lavatory off the corridor. Next to the entrance door, there is a lawn that is particularly ideal for a washing line but which could also be used for a vegetable garden. Finally, the downstairs level is completed by a utility room.
The upstairs
A wooden staircase leads to the second level, where a mezzanine space with a floor made up of solid wooden floorboards looks down onto the lounge. The spacious master bedroom has a large wardrobe as well as an en suite bathroom with a bath. Lastly, an office space that can be found at the very end of the upstairs floor could be transformed into an extra bedroom if necessary.

Our opinion

This house and its neighbourhood combine may practical aspects with a special living environment, especially for families, retirees or otherwise people looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the centre of Paris and work or relax in the tranquillity of a peaceful residential sector. It is a living space with simple traits yet well-defined forms, soft but lively colours, well thought out spaces and cleverly lit volumes, that is neither ostentatious nor excessive.
