Our opinion
A residence in the hamlet of Benville, built in the 18th century. Originally a country retreat before becoming a true mansion away from the hustle and bustle, it offered its owners - gentlemen farmers, local notables or landowning families - a haven of peace between honey-coloured stone, thatched roof and Georgian architecture. But perhaps it's the authenticity of the house that makes it so special: original sash windows, oak ceiling beams and Blue Lias stone slabs bear witness to ancestral craftsmanship. The recently discovered pine floors are still revealing their secrets. A living heritage and a gentle refuge in rural Dorset, Benville House combines grace and elegance in a timeless setting.
