Our opinion
In the city, mansions have long presented a modest façade to the street, whilst keeping the best for themselves at the rear. This one is no exception. Built around 1760 from brick and limestone, it gives no hint from the pavement of the garden that opens out due south behind its walls. Inside, the reception rooms run in a row from the hall, just as they were designed for entertaining. The oak floors, wood panelling and marble fireplaces have survived two and a half centuries without ever being replaced. Renovated and then occupied for twenty years by a law firm, the house weathered this interlude without losing any of its original décor, and its nine bedrooms are just waiting for a family to restore them to their original purpose.
