Description
The house
The house was probably built at the end of the 19th century. It has a rectangular main section with classical architecture and a perfectly symmetrical design. It also has an extension, which is more recent. The dwelling stands upon a raised basement and has a ground floor, a first floor and a second floor in the roof space. A flight of front steps leads up to a wrought-iron entrance door beneath a canopy. The ground floor’s tall windows have pediments. A stringcourse underlines the first floor. The window surrounds on the first floor have mouldings. The slate roof is punctuated with dormers with triangular pediments. It is a tall mansard roof with four slopes that is characteristic of upper-middle-class dwellings. The extension respects the house’s original architectural style, except for the second floor, which has been replaced with a vast open-air terrace. The home offers a 430m² floor area. The garden covers around 200m². It extends in front of the house, but it cannot be seen from the street as it is hidden behind tall walls. The ground floor has a 20m² terrace. The first floor has a second terrace with an 8m² floor area. And the top floor has a third terrace: a vast open-air space with a 70m² floor area and teak decking. A summer kitchen could be installed up here.
The ground floor
Reception areas take up the ground floor: an open-plan series of spaces, including lounges and a dining area, with a total floor area of 107m². A spacious fully fitted kitchen, where you can eat meals, leads out onto a terrace with a barbecue. The floors are tiled and the walls and ceilings are painted white. The kitchen looks out at the reception area through a huge pane of glass in one wall and a glazed double door.
The first floor
A remarkable staircase of glass and wrought iron features in the middle of the house and leads to all the floors. This staircase towers like a work of art. The first floor has four bedrooms. The first one has a shower room with a shower, two washbasins, a lavatory and a urinal. This bedroom also has a walk-in wardrobe. The second bedroom leads out onto a terrace. This bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a bath, a shower and a lavatory. The third and fourth bedrooms share a shower room, which has a shower, a washbasin and a separate lavatory. There is a walk-in wardrobe in a hallway on this first floor. Wood strip flooring extends across the bedrooms and the bathrooms have tiled floors.
The second floor
The stairs take you up to a lounge, which leads out onto an open-air terrace with a 70m² floor area. Up on this top floor, there are two bedrooms with sloping attic ceilings. They share a shower room that can be reached straight from each bedroom. This shower room has a shower, a washbasin and a lavatory.
The intermediate level
You reach the raised basement via the main staircase. It includes a swimming pool with an oriental-style relaxation space that has walls adorned with ceramic tiles. A domestic staff bedroom can be reached straight from the garden. There is also a utility room down here, as well as technical installations rooms and a garage in which a large vehicle can be parked. And there is a vaulted cellar that could be turned into a wine cellar.
Our opinion
This grand house with a swimming pool and terraces is a rare gem. It is a jewel set in the smartest suburban town beside eastern Paris. Its location is ideal: between the Bois de Vincennes – a vast, wooded public park – and the French capital. The property offers generous space, both inside and outside. The dwelling has been renovated masterfully. It offers precious assets that you do not usually find in this district: an extensive open-plan reception area, an indoor swimming pool and an open-air terrace. This splendid haven combines the elegance of old architecture with comfort and well-being.
