Our opinion

As with many towns on the Salento peninsula, the little town of Galatina was originally a colony of Ancient Greece. A very old Greek dialect is, furthermore, still spoken here which, legend has it, dates back to the Great Homer himself. Not far from the Basilica of Santa-Caterina and its vertiginous fresco illustrating the Old Testament, this 16th century palace has been outstandingly well preserved. The outside facade is adorned with finely sculpted windows as well as scrolls engraved with the coats-of-arms of its successive owners. Once through the porchway and the inner courtyard, this timeless residence is revealed in a series of adjoining haughty rooms of astonishing proportions. Features include period panelling and cement floor tiles. An amazing, period kitchen will require renovation works before it can once again produce Galatina’s delicious cream-filled pasticciotto.
