Location
To the east of Marseille, between the Massif des Calanques mountains and Cap Canaille headland, Cassis is a small municipality full of character that has preserved its village soul and protected its lands, some of which form prestigious PDO vineyards. The port of Cassis, home to a fishing harbour, commercial port and marina, is where the property is situated and is the hub of the town, which dates from Roman times and has inspired and continues to inspire many painters. The apartment is located a short walk from shops, cafés, restaurants and schools, as well as the railway station, A50 motorway and the main road through the town. The beaches and landing stage for boats to the Calanques coves are also nearby, while from the Marseille-Provence international airport 45 minutes away, many destinations abroad can be reached.
Description
On the west side of the first level, an approximately 12-m² bedroom stands next to an adjoining shower room. To the east, there is a fitted kitchen with wooden furnishings. The around 78-m² reception room with exposed beams combines a lounge area with a red brick fireplace and a dining room, from which three windows overlook the port of Cassis. From the living room, a white wooden and iron staircase climbs up to an office on the second floor, as well as wardrobe space and a lavatory. It can also be reached by the winding staircase from the ground floor.
On the second level, the space is occupied on one side by several wardrobes and a kitchen. In the centre, a walkway leads to an approximately 24-m² office with views of the marina. A sliding door connects this space to an approximately 23-m² master bedroom, with an en suite bathroom boasting a bath, shower, washbasin, lavatory and bidet. The bedroom’s patio doors open onto an around 14-m² enclosed terrace overlooking the sea.
A staircase then climbs to the third floor, leading to a landing into which light streams through a skylight. It in turn leads to an approximately 12² bedroom that can be reached through a sliding door, as well as an adjoining shower room, a wardrobe space and storage units. A lavatory can be found next to the technical facilities. There is mostly wood stripped flooring throughout.
Our opinion
This apartment, though immobile on the quayside, faces the sea like a ship ready to sail. The ample volumes of the interior are bathed in light, giving the impression of living in a place open to the horizon. Each level boasts a different view over Cassis: the sails and hulls in the marina and port, followed by the Cap Canaille headland and entrance to the Calanques coves on the horizon. The staircases and walkways accentuate the atmosphere of life on board a ship, in keeping with the place’s maritime spirit. This property will not fail to appeal to aficionados of unique views and port ambiances, with the feeling of occupying a privileged observatory of the Mediterranean Sea.
