Our opinion
Ciutadella guards its houses as one guards secrets. The facades give nothing away: a door, a window, sometimes a wrought-iron balcony that time has turned black. What the street does not know, only the occupant eventually comes to know. Behind one of these facades, wood has taken over the space. The shutters, the windows, the woodwork: a living material that absorbs heat during the day and releases it at night, following a principle that Menorcan builders understood long before architecture became a discipline.
