Our opinion
Between 1730 and 1736, the earth split open here for six consecutive years, engulfing entire villages in lava. A priest from the neighboring parish recorded, night after night, what he saw from a hill: flames that never went out, ground that never stopped trembling. From this catastrophe arose the black soil that, even today, retains moisture better than any other and allows crops to grow with almost no rain. El Cuchillo takes its name from this very geology, nestled in an ancient crater with still-sharp ridges. It is within this landscape—shaped by fire long before it was inhabited—that a traditional Canarian-style home stands, discreetly situated between the black rock and the horizon.
