Our opinion
On this coast, country houses have long gazed out at the sea without ever quite drawing near it, as if the caution of their ancestors had dictated their placement. This one is no exception: set back from the shore and facing inland, it finally opened up a view of the horizon the day the old porch, beneath the roof, was converted into a bedroom. Since then, the sea and the countryside have shared the same window. Downstairs, the vaulted ceilings have retained their original thickness—that of houses built to last longer than a single lifetime. More than half a century in the same family has given each generation time to add its own room, without ever taking anything away from the previous one.
