Our opinion
Järna is part of that region of Sweden which the prominent families of Södertälje have long chosen for their summer residences, drawn by the proximity of the Baltic Sea and that distinctive light which the forests south of Lake Mälaren filter in a way unlike anywhere else. The house has absorbed this spirit without making a show of it. Its timber cladding has taken on the colour of age, whilst the enclosed garden and its fruit trees form a setting that the hornbeam hedge draws in around it. Inside, a stove and a fireplace keep the Swedish winters at bay. A separate basement level opens up the house to uses other than that of a mere residence.
